It is a little depressing to see a lot of people are just ranting at Universal to advertise Serenity more (it's had trailers attached to 3 of the biggest movies of 2005 in the US), but there's little movement from fans at the moment advertising Serenity. Think of all the effort that went in when Firefly was cancelled (Variety advert, posters, leafleting)... and now look at now. Less than 100 days to launch, and well... not a lot going on. Come the end of September, Serenity is going to make or break the Firefly franchise. It'll simply be a case of "Hurray! More movies!" or "Shit! It's all over and too late now!".

I agree with pretty much most of what you've said Im pretty suprised that theres nothing to spectcular going on in the ideas department. I know we have a few months to go but I think it easy to critsise universal, who from my point of view certainly haven't done a lot wrong especially now there doing a new website.

Overall though Im suprised there aren't more pre planned fan ideas to promote the film. Then again I havn't started any revolutions myself so I guess I cant complain to much. I just think more things in the vain of the box job your doing would certainly help.

This is going to be our very, very best way to get people to see the movie. Believe me, it's much easier to recruit somebody by sitting them on your couch and popping in the first disk, then to put an ad in the paper about some movie coming out in September. Think of the way a virus spreads. It's exponential math, and it's working in our favor. Just keeping loaning your DVDs, having Firefly viewing parties and casually mentioning Firefly/ Serenity in conversations.

This is grass-roots campaigning, and while it may not look as flashy as some other types, it can be very effective in the right situation, a la Napolean Dynomite. And Universal gave us the screenings, which we then used to notify our local newspapers. Many big and small papers wrote up articles about Serenity, and at no cost to either Browncoats or Universal, we got instant publicity (and I think that is what is fueling the Amazon sales increase).

Like I said, I'm not worried. When Firefly hits the Sci-Fi channel in re-runs on their biggest night, we'll be sitting pretty. I have no doubt. :)

I'm still plugging along the same way we have since the beginning, Recruit recrut recruit, I'm working on the neighbors on my street, already got all my friends (the last holdout finally got hooked and bought the set (after seeing the screening)
they are all recruiting, word of mouth has been our best friend, just kick it up a notch folks!
any ideas from the fans for other way s to promote the movie?

I see what your saying. I didnt mean to sound to concerned I know us browncoat folk are pretty much pushing firefly 24/7 in anyway we can. I still hope to see some gifted individuals come up with a few grassroots ways in which we can push the film even harder.

Yeah, plus guerilla marketing can be a lot of fun! A group of us Arizonans are hosting Firefly screenings on a projector screen in a local comic book store. It's a lot of fun, and we gained a few recruits, but it doesn't seem to be as effective the Serenity screening where browncoats handed out flyers to curious passerby...

ETA: I like the Box Job idea, too. Some people have donated sets to libraries, and I think that's a shiny effort, too!

About time. The 'Versal board has lacked the feel & look of an "official" movie board all along. In order to convince people to see the BDM we need to have a site that will inspire them to do so.

Just because it's Flash doesn't automatically mean that it's a disaster.
War of the World's site is Flash...and it really nice. It's readable, loads quickly (Then again, I'm fortunate enough to have Broadband.), looks good, easy to navigate, informative....
Everything the official Serenity sight SHOULD be...BY NOW.
It's now July. 3 more months out from the BDOpening.
I think they've appeased us Firefly geeks for long enough.
Now is the time to get a site up that will grab the non-initiated.

It is for me since I have flash disabled. So such sites are just a blank page since they rarely bother to make a proper HTML. And if occasionally enable flash its sually tiny letters impossible for me to read (and the people disable the zoom feature of flash) - if they had followed the original ideas of HTML one could scale the fonts - but they never do. I'm filled with hate and bitterness at each site that reminds me my eyes are not as good as they once where and that nobody really cares

Case in point. When I look at it with flash disabled, i just get one page - not with "real" text, but with pictures of text (meaning you can't scale the letters to a more readable size). It simply says when the movie opens, and some graphics - and a link that says "You must use flash".

And then when I do enable it, its exacly what I expect. Small hard to read letters and you can't scale it. A site that I would call crap - so yeah, I expect to win the bet on the sernity site. Form was always more important than function in Hollywood.
