See subject. Serenity_LEADER has posted on the OB under "Movie Production", under the topic called "Thank You to individuals at Universal working on our film", to say they are working on a new SERENITY movie website to replace the existing one.

That is really wonderful news! The existing site is not as awful as some people are saying - I like the format of the boards themselves - but there's a lot of things that need to be done better, and the whole thing could use some serious spit-and-polish. Yay us!

In the meantime, tide yourselves over with this website I made:

Sounds great, but how's about Joss updating cantstopthesignal.com ? It's still just a listing of the sold-out preview showings from June 24...

Is the signal we can't stop just old gorram news?

so far, cantstopthesignal.com is just for links to where you can buy tickets when there's a screening.
there's nothing to update.
don't go there unless there's been a screening announced and you want to know what theatres are holding 'em.

I thought it was more of an information site from Joss, as opposed to the Official Studio Mouthpiece of the movie site. It's a shame it's not...great (and very memorable) URL. "Can't Stop the Signal"... love it.

Well, I can't get into that site, so my guess is that they're working on it right now! Yay!

So, does this mean that Universal underestimated the power of the browncoat - I did notice yesterday that in the morning there was about 33 less browncots registered than the evening, and tht was about 38 people away from the magic 40,000 figure.

It would be interesting to compare this with other scfi fandom (apart from starwars which has had over 25 years to build a fan base)

My personal opinion is that I think Universal has historically over estimated the power of the browncoats, to be honest. Whilst there are many of us, there aren't enough to fund this movie on our own. We need a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT of extra people in cinemas for this to turn a profit.

It is, of course, both our and Universals responsibility to ensure this happens.

It is a little depressing to see a lot of people are just ranting at Universal to advertise Serenity more (it's had trailers attached to 3 of the biggest movies of 2005 in the US), but there's little movement from fans at the moment advertising Serenity. Think of all the effort that went in when Firefly was cancelled (Variety advert, posters, leafleting)... and now look at now. Less than 100 days to launch, and well... not a lot going on. Come the end of September, Serenity is going to make or break the Firefly franchise. It'll simply be a case of "Hurray! More movies!" or "Shit! It's all over and too late now!".
