From the MPAA website:

A film's single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, shall initially require the Rating Board to issue that film at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive must lead the Rating Board to issue a film an R rating, as must even one of these words used in a sexual context.

That's actually quite funny, since Moonlight Mile had three fucks uttered.

I'm dead sure but then again, I'm open to somebody else at the British screenings telling me I'm a cloth eared fool.

PG-13 will probably be a 12A (meaning under twelves can get in with an adult). I suspect the BBFC might suggest some arbitrary cuts to the violence (Attack of the Clones was similarly censored/classified for a headbutt so they cut it out of movie but then put it on all the TV spots) but I shouldn't think it'll be a 15.

PG-13 is the ideal box office rating apparently (I seem to recall that for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves they had Christian Slater's character say F*** just to ensure that it didn't get the wimpier PG).

PG-13 gathers the largest audience, it is worth it, the extra goodies can go to DVD.

COMPLETELY UNOFFICIAL ANSWER:

12 or 12A is the target. If there's significant problems it could end up at 15, but I don't that'd be desired.

Mini spoiler about movie swearing:

It was definitely "fuck things up" said to Inara. It had a real impact.

There's also Jaynes Cock line which became Cobb.

WhoIsRiver,

Both Boston screenings in May had Jayne referring to his 'swinging cod' rather than cock. Might be another edit Joss made to fit into the PG-13 realm.

Thanks SimonWho and WhoIsRiver.
Dunno whether to be glad or sorry about this. I'm glad that it'll likely get a bigger audience, which means more chance of sequals. But on the other hand, I'll have to put up with a load of nippers talking through the film. And it sounds like we're gonna miss out on some quality cussin', cos of the edits.

According to krad, it was "fog" and "cod" in the script, let alone early cuts of the film.
