I liked the Gunn/Gwen development; Fred and Wesley's conversation ("Sometimes it's not about holding hands"); Gunn's fight scene (great to have a reminder that this character is a life-long fighter and into "the mission" for the long haul); and Gwen lecturing her mole on playing it cool. Loved the Magic Eight Ball!!
Everything else was predictable. This was my first 100% spoiler free week of Angel/Buffy viewing in about two years. But where this week's Buffy was surprising and engaging, this week's Angel was routine and fairly predictable. As stated, I enjoyed the Gunn/Gwen thing but saw it coming a mile off. I knew Cordy was not going to kill Lorne at the end (in Whedon country you rarely see the death of a main character coming). The whole time she was tiptoe-ing toward Lorne with the knife I was saying aloud "They set her up."
I certainly hope there are more interesting and unexpected things destined for the Angel Investigations team.
Speaking of which, check out what Senior Angel Consultant David Greenwalt has to say about the future of his shows Angel and Miracles:

It actually aired in your area? I had some stupid basketball game on, so I missed it.

One day that logic of nothign is ever what you expect in the wheadon verse is gonna come back and bite you in the ass :)
I liked pretty much all the same things you mention(along with that "I got struck by lightning....really!")
Isn't it kind of ironic you knew the character wasn't going to die because they set it up for him to die? I honestly wasn't sure what was going to happen, as you would expect him not to die since you saw it coming, prehaps they would kill him?
Just remember, no matter how predictable you feel Angel is at times, 99.9% of TV is worse the whole time.

I really liked this week's Angel, especially that now finally they realized what Cordelia is up to. It was about time. Now I can look forward how they deal with the situation. I think that they probably will not be sure if it is the real Cordelia at all or Cordelia under a bad spell or something like it. If they were sure its a false Cordelia, they can just kill her, so that would be boring...
And I agree with you guys, that even though one felt it to be a setup, you couldn't be sure - Joss is able to do anything to us, even take Lorne away (please don't!).
I also liked the whole japanese-etiquette-scene, it was nice to give Gunn a bit more to do than just fighting. He really is underappreciated. I only had hoped Gwen and Angel would work out
, but I guess this is out of the question now. At least we hopefully will see more of Gwen in the future, I really like her character.
But one question remains for me after seeing yesterdays ep: Why and when did Lorne loose his mindreading? He read Angelus false and believed him to be Angel, so why did that happen?

I'm pretty sure Lorne lost his mojo when Cordy did the fake "Let's re-ensoul Angel" spell. He read Angelus wrong right after that.
My only question from the show is trying to determine when Angel started setting her up. It seems like he knew pretty early & was just baiting her for most of the episode.

I was thinking when Cordy was sneaking up on Lorne, that Connor was going to stop her and we would have Cordy try to explain her way out again ( as with her telling him to kill Angel earlier in the show )Connor was staying very close to Cordy thoughout the show. I was expecting at least one episode with Connor trying to decide between divided loyaltys whether or not to say anything to the rest of the crew.
The way it did come down was a little less complicated, but still enjoyable.
