Did the terrible theme song lead to the demise of the show?

I didn't really like the theme song the first time or two I heard it... in my case, it wasn't until I had a 'feel' for the 'verse, and what Mal had gone through, that the song really connected.

Of course, if I didn't watch a show just because the theme song sucked, I would've turned Wonderfalls off 15 seconds in. Damn, that chorus is annoying as hell.

I really didn't like the theme song much myself when I first heard it. It took a while for me to accept it. That's the same for the whole show though.

I also have converted friends who still think the theme song is ridiculously stupid. They like the show though. So, I consider that acceptable.

Then again, I also am the type of person who won't go see cinderella man because of how terrible that title sounds. They might as well have called it fairy, girlie, fancypants man.

I didn't have a feelin' one way or the other for the song untill a couple of eps into it, when the words started makin' sense to me. Now I love it and will be heartbroken if they don't include it in the BDM!!!

I'm inclined to agree with you, AURaptor, but only because he/she was only here long enough to rip on the theme song.
I didn't think the post was trollish. Too intelligent and simply stating an opinion that differed from many flans' ideas.
However, as I mentioned, I agree the dates on his/her bio scream troll.

I despise most Country music but I Lurv the theme song. It is my ring-tone too, the entire, actual, song. I get people asking me what that's from, opening the door for me to enlighten them.

I thoroughly enjoyed the theme song, but it does have it's own taste. This song was specifically written to be kinda otherworldly or allworldly, I think you know what I mean. Anyhoo, I HOPE people wouldn't turn off a show just because of the theme music. I do know that my mom only started watching Third Watch (great show) because as she was flipping through stations their theme song caught her ear. I don't think that would work the other way around. Look at Family Guy's theme song. I'm sick of hearing it! But I really don't think I'd stop watching the show because of it. That's just silly.

The first time you hear ballad of serenity, it kinda just doesn't mean anything, then when it does mean something, don't u find yourself singing it with pride. Like bellowing out, unable to understand why others can't comprehend the geniousness, and passion, of what you're declairing?

I'm sure you meant to say "that song is awful, IMO" right? Not everyone is of the same opinion, let's remember. And they're not afraid to tell you either, as you may have noticed

I'll admit, the theme put me off for a bit, due to the genetic aversion I have to country western music. I took it as such at first, then realized it actually has a blue grass tempo to it. I've grown to appreciate blue grass in recent years, which I probably should, since it has Scottish roots, same as I do.

Forgetting the tune for a moment, consider the lyrics. Even hating the tune, the words are very Firefly.

Not to mention, it has considerably less verses than "Hero of Canton" which makes the theme WAY easier to sing in the shower.

Utterly and completely. You said it better than I did.

StringSlinger does a FABULOUS rendition of it. He also wrote another tune that speaks more to the Battle of Serenity.
