One of my sources has confirmed that Firefly will air in the UK.

According to a response Sci-Fi UK sent him, Sci-Fi UK currently holds the right to Firefly and the series is slated to appear in their May schedule.

You know, when we kept reading about Joss still looking at "other avenues" and telling us that our show "wasn't dead yet", it helped to keep hope alive. But now, with this info, I'm ecstatic! I'm not a UK resident, but I'm glad to see that Serenity will keep flying high, even if it isn't over my cable airwaves.

Is there any chance that a US cable/dish/satellite company will be able to pick up this station so we can watch?

Is Sci-Fi UK a seperate entity from Sci-Fi US, or is there a single parent company? If so, wouldn't that mean Sci-Fi US also has the rights to air episodes?

I think that they are wholly separate, at the very least in terms of programming--SCIFIUK has aired stuff in the past that SciFi Channel here in the US owned by USA Network has never aired (Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, for example, or Witchblade).

20th Century Fox would have to negotiate a separate deal, to sell the rights to air the current eps in the US. Usually, those deals happen over the summer at NATPE in Vegas, but with the initial order of 13 +2, rather than a full season, I have no idea if we'll ever see the show in syndication in the US, unless it shows up on Fox owner FX...

usually you need a *minimum* of 65-100 episodes to syndicate (strip) a show. However, SciFi and FX have in the past run niche programming, particularly genre stuff, with much much shorter runs.

Of course, in the UK, 6-12 episodes *is* a normal full season, so it's not so big a deal.

Here's a reply I got to an email to SciFi:

I can now confirm that Sci-Fi will be showing "Firefly", and that the show will appear in our May schedule. I can also confirm that we shall be airing the 3 previously unaired episodes that did not air in the States. This will make the number of episodes in the series 15.

I can also tell you that we shall be airing John Doe in the very near future, though I do not have a start date as of yet.

I think you'll agree that this is certainly an exciting time for the channel.

I'm not sure but I think the first episode will be The Train Job and this will be shown on May 12th.
