Howdy y'all!
New member of the board here and I need some help. I'm trying to recompile my episodes into the order that they were originally supposed to air. If anyone can supply me with a list I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks a million,
CS

This is the correct continuity order:

05 Shindig
06 Safe
07 Our Mrs. Reynolds
08 Jaynestown
09 Out of Gas
10 Ariel
11 War Stories
12 Heart of Gold (unaired)
13 Objects in Space
14 Trash (unaired)
15 The Message (unaired)
Stay shiny!

Wait a sec! How can Objects in Space come AFTER Heart of Gold?

If Inara says she's leaving at the end of HoG?
Do they just ignore this in OiS? What's up?

I was going to say something as straight forward as "That leads me to believe that she ends up staying. Duh." But you are right, she says she’s leaving at the end of HOG. If something came up or someone talked her out of leaving, it was never in either the HOG or the OIS script.
Alright, as I type this I’ve come to another conclusion. She just hasn't left yet. In OIS maybe they were en route to where ever she needed to be. Perhaps she had some loose ends to tie up on another planet before she could settle down. Maybe she had to check in at the Guild. OIS is mostly about Simon, River and a little bit of Kaylee. We don't get to see much of how Inara is feeling. Maybe the rest of the crew is still in the dark about her leaving. During the two interactions between Mal and Inara I can think of (Her speaking up during the crews meeting, and Mal touching her bloody lip) neither one of them seem comfortable. There has always been that sexual tension, but they’ve been comfortable near each other, cool and collected. But in OIS the two of them seemed awkward together. I bet this was because they both knew she was leaving.

Ha ha! The stealth thread!

Nope, I ain't buying it. I'll have to double double check, but in OiS, Inara is complaining (as she also does in Trash) that there's nowhere for her to work where Serenity goes. Hardly the talk of someone leaving the ship.
I'm just going to have to assume that HoG is either the last, or (if something in The Third Unaired Ep Who's Name Escapes Me says something about Inara threatening to depart) second to last episode. (...made so far, gorramit!)
Like crime, unaired episode continuity is... Fluid.

Maybe Joss changed the scripts slightly when he found out that HOG and the other two episodes weren’t going to be airing. But in HOG Inara DID say she was leaving-

There's something that I... that I
should have done a long while ago.
And I'm sorry -- for both of us --
that it took me this long.
A beat.
INARA
I'm leaving.
Another moment, and she goes past him into her Shuttle.
He doesn't move.

Maybe it's just me, but that does sound like someone who’s juggling the idea (not geese) of leaving. It sounds like, "You know what Mal, I said I was leaving, and I am! 'Cause look, this new place we're going is just like the others, I can't get any clients where Serenity goes. Ha! Off I go! *sticks her tongue out at him as she runs off* Okay, maybe not that last part, but you get what I’m saying. She was just reiterating to Mal why she’s planning on leaving. In OIS she does say "I don't know why I haven't left already". Sounds to me like she agreed to stay on for awhile, perhaps under the condition that Serenity starts parking on some more civilized planets. Also, when River walks in-
Inara: I'm a big girl, just tell me.
Mal: None of it means a damn thing.
Maybe that has something to do with Inara leaving. Or at least threatening to leave. Maybe she's just a big drama queen and likes attention so she continually threatens to leave. I don’t know, it's another idea.

Ok, I'll buy that. Having gone back and WATCHED the OiS scene now...

I'd forgotten that she says "It's not a threat." and "I don't know why I haven't left already."
I'm convinced. All hail the one true episode order! (Sorry, my FF DVDs were off bringing religiosity to the fuzzy-wuzzys, spreading the word to them's as needs to hear it.) (Joss isn't God, mind, but I'm getting converts nonetheless.
)BTW, I think "None of it means a damn thing" is not about Inara, but just a peek into the tortured soul of Capt. Tightpants. No matter who or what he's talking about he is still (STILL) reeling from losing all faith in everything.
