Someone just emailed me that Serenity is coming to small town in West Virginia on July 29th! He assumes that will be the widespread release date, because well, why else would the movie come to his little town?

I will find out from him how he knows, and post it here.

Oh, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is true. The end of July would be the perfect timeframe to open since there really isn't anything else big opening at that time, and they still have a month of summer left to do business.

Ok, my friend says he saw the 7/29/05 release date attached to the Serenity trailer when he went to see Batman Begins.

I wonder why we haven't heard anything from any other moviegoers? Is this an error?

If it does come out on July 29, I need you all to keep it in the theatres for at least FOUR weeks. I am going out of the country and won't be back until Aug 24th--it needs to still be in theatres by then. PLEASE.

Just another bit of info, Apple's trailer link/site says, "In Theatres Sept. 30th." So there. On the other hand, that could still be true if it opened on an earlier date...
