Ah geez, I'm probably going to get flamed for this (especially be'n a newcomer and all) but has anyone else compared Firefly to the A-Team?
You have a couple of ex-military people, leading a ragtag group, always one step ahead of the law, going around helping people for money. (yes, I know the A-Team weren't thieves though) And coming up with "the plan" while getting prepared within a music montage.
I made this mental comparison early on after watching the first couple of episodes and then when I watched "Heart of Gold" it really reminded me of the similarity between the shows.
Now before anyone freaks out, I do admit that the quality of Firefly is lightyears ahead of the A-Team. Theres no question that the acting, writing and production are much better. But the A-Team did have that chemistry thing going. Anyone else see this?
Okay, I'm ducking now....fire away!

You may have a point - look at the way Kaylee & Wash knocked up that ambulance! Perfect A-Team material!

I think you have a solid case...especially I loved both shows! Hey...you think Murdock and River would have gotten along?
Firefly is such a hodgepodge of things...You can instantly tell what it references...sometimes not. I've never put the two together, and now that its right in front of me, I'm wondering why I never did before!
Congrats!

LOL ~ That is too funny! I can imagine both of them acting crazy and Summer ending up thinking he's worse than she is...
I can also see Jayne & Mr. T grinning tough at each other...
Face would be hanging with Simon talking nothing
Kaylee would be checking out Face butt...
Hannibal would be working side by side with Mal
Wash would get a kick out of Murdock and murdock would feed off of that...
Book would be happy that no one got killed
Zoe would be plotting the ambush
Anara would use her good looks to seduce guards to get a karate chop by face behind them.
The Alliance & The Army would both be after them...
Wow.... That sure brought back a lot of good memories....

Can't you see Jayne pointing at BA and saying "I got respect, but...Gold."

Whew! Thanks for your responses. I was so afraid people would say, How dare you compare the A-Team with our beloved show!
One big difference between the two shows is that in the A-Team NOBODY ever got hurt, not even a scrape (with very few exceptions) With all that gunfire going on, supposedly with expert marksmen, you'd think somebody would get shot! But the bad guys would just role over a few times in their car, get out and say "you all right?", "yeah, I'm fine" I think the network insisted on that.
It's nice to see the realism of bullet wounds and blood in Firefly (not that I'm a big fan of violence, it just more realistic).

Quote:A-Team was also once a beloved show. I still love it, although I do see the inconsistencies and surrealism of it. Sometimes it sucks to be a grown up.

My father still loves it, and Hannibal was one of his favorite characters. Dad will still say, "I love it when a plan comes together."
I could also see Face and Mal agreeing on things such as the concept of "borrowing."

There were plenty of shows in the 80s where people did a lot of shooting, but rarely hit anything...
Chief in my mind (though its a cartoon) is GI JOE...Now, was I wrong, or were the Joes, a crack team of highly trained special mission forces at WAR with Cobra, a ruthless, terrorist organization determined to rule the world?
WAR...and nobody hit nothin! Well, they hit vehicles and stuff, but never each other, till the battle androids came out. At least on "V" people got shot and hurt...
I do like that people get hurt in the Firefly verse...it adds a dash of realism to an unrealistic premise. It has nothing to do with sadism. I just think its great to show people getting hurt, getting up, and finishing the job...or getting on with life...

Good call. I can just hear Stephen Cannell saying: "I took the road less travelled by, and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN' SHOW!(Tenspeed & Brownshoe) I totally shoulda taken the road with all those other people on it. I'm gonna create the A-Team"
Keep the Shiny Side Up . . . (wutzon) Stones, "Moonlight Mile", from "Sticky Fingers"
