Just a quick update.
Rich and I had a meeting yesterday afternoon and I did get an update from the folks at DragonCon last night. We are waiting on some crucial information from TPTB with DragonCon, which we hope to get within the next couple of days. As soon as that information is ready, I will post a rather lenghty submission of what we have planned, what we need, and how you can help. They understand we are down to approximately 90 days to prep so we really do hope to get that info soon.
One Dollar William and his fiance Heather will be helping with the SEBC website where all info will be posted. I will not be posting on each and every board the same thing over and over. As soon as the website is updated I will post the address to everyone so you can review - hopefully within the next week.
Thanks for your patience. :)
Best regards,
NDreams
Oh - and PS - Atlanta Browncoats - I'm very disappointed. Atlanta's motto has always been "a city too busy to hate." I think it should be changed to "a city too busy to participate."

Ouch. That P.S. was a bit of a stinger. Know what they say about catching more (fire)flies w/honey than vinegar....
Anywho.. I guess there wasn't the turn out for today's meeting that had been hoped for. Understandable, as school just got out not long ago and many folks are doing the summer vacation thing. I for one am still willing and able to assist the cause as am needed. I just wasn't available for THIS particular weekend. Luck of the draw, as it were, but I'll definatly keep my eyes open for the next chance to help out.

Yes, I suppose it was a bit harsh. But for me to put all that effort that I put into it (I had a final exam this morning and still managed to get there, set up the room, and have all my ducks in a row!) it was a tad bit frustrating to have TWO people show up - and those two people were a couple that drove all the way up from ATHENS.
I had 5 that had confirmed they were attending and 2 others that were kind enough to email me and tell me they would be out of town or otherwise tied up.
I was a tad bit frustrated today. As I'm sure you can understand. It's very hard to organize a party for 20,000+ people by yourself.

I can't speak for the 5 no shows. Shame on them if they committed to show up and then didn't I know for my part, I was one of those who said in advance this weekend wouldn't work for me. Hope the others fall in line soon though.

Hi NDREAMS!
Thanks so much for the update. Too bad about the lack of participation, but I trust that the local and nonlocal Browncoats will pull through in the end. Hear that guys!!! My daughter and I are in Maryland but want to do whatever we can, both in advance and at the Con. We got to see a screening (with Morena there!) and are more psyched than ever for Dragon*Con, our first con, and being with our fellow Browncoats.
Anywho, I think setting up a website for information and volunteers is a great idea. I'm assuming that once its good to go you are going to post about it on all the other Firefly/Serenity sites. Let us know when you set it up and post about it so that the rest of us can keep it "Bumped" up on all the other sites.
Looking forward to hearig more on what the scoop is and what we can do.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled mayhem.

Hi BayBreeze!
Evidently some people have taken my PS comment to extremes and I have been receiving some hate email and got a bit bruised up on another board over it.
It seems I'm not properly "motivating" people to get involved. I thought Firefly/Serenity/Joss/Browncoats was enough reason to be motivated, I didn't realize other outside motivation would be required.
So, I thought long and hard last night about quitting. I was going to do it. I slept on it. Then I woke up thinking if I don't step up to the plate and do it how can I say anything about anyone else not participating. And then I got those ugly emails.
So right now I'm very confused as to whether this entire endeavor will be worth my time, money and efforts.
First - I will end up working and not enjoying to Con. Second - this thing begins on my birthday. Do I want to spend my birthday "weekend" going through this? Third - do I want to put up with the harrassment (that has already begun) when people don't get everything they want or things don't go exactly the way they feel they should or they feel I have slighted them in some way.
Too much thinking is making my brain hurt!
So that's the latest scoop! Sorry nothing progressive! *L*

DON'T QUIT! see there- no more thinking I've done it for you
Just remember you can't please all of the people all of the time. If you think you're doing a good job then just let their comments slide off of you. It's like duck on a waters back.
I would love to help out. Is there anything that I can help with here in Seattle and then bring with me on the plane? You can count on me for the decoration commitee if we have a Browncoat dance/ball/whatever we wanna call it...
e-mail me at beccabennie@hotmail.com
and we can talk about the kind of volunteer's you need

NDreams,
I can understand your frustration, but you are not alone in the work for Dragon Con.
I, like many others offering to help, am not in the Atlanta area. I helped Rich out at the table last year, handing out & printing fliers, etc. As I have already discussed with you, my wife & I get into Atlanta Thursday around noon. We will both gladly help decorate, set up the browncoat table, put in time at the table, decorate for the Shindig, etc. It is my wifes birthday that weekend too, but she is willing to put that off to help out for the show we both love.
Hang in there. I am sure any hateful emails you got were knee jerk reactions to the post script of your initial post. Email is not the best medium for conveying thought so it sometimes causes confusion, hurt feelings, and overreaction.
Don't give up, and don't walk away. We are counting on you to lead the way. You point us in the right direction and we browncoats will get it done.

Hi NDreams
Volunteering is a difficult and mostly thankless job. Especially so leading a group of volunteers. You will see no reward till after the con is over and you've converted many new Browncoats and the BDH's spend time at the fan table (I hope) and then everyone says "Wow, this was great". That and maybe a t-shirt from 'Versal will be the only thanks. But that's what volunteering is about, doing it because you are passionate about something and because you believe.
I believe in doing what I say and I think you had every right to mouth off a bit when only 2 people showed up. We're all human, you were frustrated, so you vented. The folks that wrote evil things to you, well, some people can't handle the truth. But, ok, they're human and they vented, now let's get past it, please.
I hope the Browncoats in Atlanta will realize that they need to come together and work together with you, NDreams, till the reinforcements from outside arrive. Usually my friends and I arrive late Thursday. I will see what I can do to get us there earlier in the day to give more time to help. The majority of us coming to DC are Browncoats but our jobs are still the deciding factor
Hang in there for us NDreams!
I aim to misbehave!
