hey zoid,

believe me, i understand what "the educated" think of aol. i keep it for a couple reasons, but most importantly because of the comfort level my folks (76 & 74) have with it. we "talk" daily on line, play games together, etc. i also met my finace on aol, for which it will always hold a place in my heart. i can see how some might take offense to what they consider to be propaganda of the big machine, but it works for us.

as far as my system goes, it is a 2004 dell pc running xp. the internet explorer version is 6.0. my access is through a comcast cable modum. i don't use their interface at all.

i do access the internet directly through microsoft's internet explorer somtimes. and to answer your question about the timing of my test....it was immediatly after trying to get to the new message. in fact, i copied and pasted the web address from aol to i.e., so it was only a couple seconds. (just checked again through aol & i did get the page with the new mesage from jewel....)

as far as which browser aol uses, i think it is i.e. i do not recall down loading any other browser, but it could have put it there without me knowing.

let me know if you have any other questions, and what you think the problem might be. i'd love to know what you think it is.

Nice as that may be I don’t think I’ll be coming back to the thread, everyone there has a different set of rules that I’m meant to follow, and I’m not talking about hammocks.

Also TRM seems to be very, very serious for what I thought was meant to be a laid back thing.

Some ISP has been known to proxy cache your requests. For instance, for very large ISPs (like AOL) - even some large corporations's internal IT, it saves them a lot of traffic if they cache some of the more *popular* websites and let you fetch from their cache. It all works very transparently, so on your end you wouldn't really notice it at all...

But then 3 days or so is quite a long time to cache things - I doubt that they cache anything for that long.
