Hello everyone. I wanted to make an Inara dress for Halloween (my husband was Mal) but didn't find any that I liked enough to duplicate. I ended up making my own, modifying a gypsy costume ... I didn't really like the way it turned out, though.

Has anyone tried making any Inara dresses? Which ones?

When I do costumes, I don't go for the exact dress. They had a wardrobe and I'm guessing Inara had many things we never saw. So, I have a ghagra choli I think Inara might wear. I also found a little Chinese market nearby that sells clothes and gifts. They have many dresses and robes that could be Inaraesque if properly accessorized. Why not try something like that. There prices were pretty good, only $35 for the dress.

I do have some Indian clothes that I picked up at a thrift store that I think might work - I just hate to cut it apart in any way! The material is so beautiful ...

I want to see pictures of the finished product, okay?
Sounds like so much fun.

The Pink Dress that Inara wears in several episodes is actually a pink satin vintige 30's evening dress. There should be several websites that sell patterns for something similar to it. You might also check out a local fabric store and their commercial patterns. Historical patterns have gained in poplularity of late and are easier to obtain.
