The series was ended way back in 2002 and it is very unlikely it will ever return to television in that original format (there is always a chance for spin-offs though). Right now Joss Whedon has a movie deal for three movies. The first one being "Serenity" due out this fall (Sept. 30th to be exact) and two more if Serenity does well. That is the future of the franchise for now. Plus now that Whedon finally has the movie career he wants it might be very unlikely he will return to television. He already has a deal for "Wonderwoman" with Warner Brothers and I'm sure he will get more especially if "Serenity" is a hit.

There are two things I'm afraid of. One being "Serenity" is not a success no more movies. Two being "Serenity" is a success and Whedon moves on to bigger things and leaves Firefly/Serenity in the dust for good.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

A little history lesson;

Firefly the series was aired in the Fall of 2002 on FOX and was made by 20th Century FOX. It was aired out of order, three episodes were never aired, the two hour pilot was aired last, and it was then cancelled by FOX in December of 2002.

In December of 2003, 20th Century FOX released the Firefly DVD Box set which got tremedous sales. So much more than what was expected. Universl Studios then bought the movie rights to Firefly. 20th Century FOX still owns the TV rights though and the original Firefly series. Universal has since allowed Joss Whedon write, direct, and film the movie Serenity which includes all of the original cast members and takes place 6 months after the last episode in Firefly. That is a brief history of Firefly/Serenity.

I take it that you're new to our side of the 'verse. Welcome!
