Yeah, the NBC executive's rationale for that decision was that he figures having Jennifer talking to dead people will draw a younger demographic than having Amber talk to God???????????? Are these people (tv executives) insane or just incredibly stupid...?
I'll grant that season two of Joan wasn't as interesting as the incredible season one. However, that said, the season finale left open the possibility for a great season three arc. How do these stupid execs not see that?
EDIT: Thanks to this stupidity, I'm now down to only TWO shows left on tv that I consider "must see" every week. I'm not even going to name them. Some tv exec might happen across the post and say, "Hey, let's cancel these too."

I'm fairly sure that they[execs] are far to busy looking at numbers generated by the severely outdated Nielson system to be bothered to actually watch anything, even on their own network. If I were an exec., I wouldn't watch that much either, I mean have you seen some of the crap they're showing.

Unfortunately, I have seen it and yes, that's why I hardly watch tv anymore. The way I see it (and these percentages aren't exact), about 90% of what plays on network tv is unwatchable crap. This includes all reality shows, almost every sit-com, and most dramas.
There's about another 7% of shows that I enjoy well enough to watch. This includes shows (for example, N.C.I.S.) that I find interesting and entertaining enough to watch every week if I remember to turn them on. However, if I forget to watch or they are cancelled, it really doesn't bother me much. These are shows that I enjoy seeing on tv, but I wouldn't buy the dvd set.
That leaves a rapidly shrinking 3% of shows that I really like a lot. That includes shows like Firefly, Angel, Joan of Arcadia, Wonderfalls and other similarly excellent programs. Notice anything they have in common? Yes, cancelled - all of them - and more that I haven't named. These are all shows for which I would buy dvds for myself and all my friends and family.
It seems that with all the complete crap on tv, the networks still feel compelled to take their cancellation fetish out on my measly 3% (which is now really down to 2%). As this trend shows no sign of abating, I expect that my percentage of really great programs to watch will be down to 0% within a couple of years. Then my tv will be used strictly for playing back the dvds of all my old favorites.

I completely agree. And those percentages are a pretty good match to mine. All reality and current sit-coms in the 90% (Crap)
The shows you watch but are embaressed to admit 1%(Las Vegas, O.C.)
Worth watching, but not owning or fretting a missed episode about 7%(NCIS, House, CSI:NY, Medium, Smallville, 24, CSI,)
The final 2% Must see, plan to own (Alias, Lost, oh wait they canceled everything else in this category. Buffy, Angel, Wonderfalls, Firefly, etc.)
Hoping to add The Inside to this(not the cancelled part). And Jane E. is working up something tenativly called "Utopia" which sounds promising.

60 Mins Wed (the piece they did today on the USS San Francisco was interesting and informative) and Joan canceled is there any non-cable TV shows left for people with brains? Shockingly besides NCIS the only show I find enjoyable is on Fox!! That show being House M.D and since this week’s astonishingly good episode I think its not long for this world.
The universe is frikken upside-down!
If I had a DVD drive on my ‘puter I would unplug my TV.

Indeed. I was floored by this week's House. Honestly, there are only two shows I plan my evening's around watching these days. House and Lost. The Sci-Fi friday night line-up to a lesser degree, but those feel more like a guilty pleasure. This in mind I'm the closest I've ever been in my life to just cancelling my cable altogether and just getting these series on DVD when they come out.
I mean, honestly, the only other thing that's worthwhile on TV in my house is PBS for my kids... and I should just read them a book anyway...

Ha Ha! I like your 1% category, and I'd put the same two shows in it - except, I think The OC is about to join the 90% category. Here they are in only the second season and they're already recycling plot lines from the first season (the female lead character with a drinking problem - sound familiar?)
Great (and unexpected) news that Arrested Development was renewed. That show is the only reason that I didn't lump ALL sit-coms in the 90% crap area.
I also agree with Gunrunner about this week's House - by far the best episode thus far. Kind of reminded me of the way "Out of Gas" was put together - really outstanding...
EDIT: Oh, and I'm sure "The Inside" will be an incredible show with all the writing and acting talent that Tim has lined up for it... I'll bet that, since these first 13 episodes are going to be played in June - August, that they will all at least air. After that, who knows... it's on F*X after all.
