If given the choice, Serenity television series, or 2 more films?

I'm liking the idea of a TV series, but with format changes.
I've become fond of the way HBO presents its marquee dramas. They run one hour episodes, 13 weeks straight. This is a little scant of the amount of actual screen time one gets in a season of broadcast TV by a bit over an hour, but because the show doesn't have to be "broken" at predictable intervals you get to tell some story.
I have subscribed to HBO intermittently when something I like is running, and they just about always run the series straight through. I think Joss could tell us all some pretty great stories in this format.
As far as our BDHs go, we will eventually have to say goodbye to them, but the 'verse is a large place. I think having them on the big screen is for the best, not least because the actors make more money and are free for other projects where their talents can shine.
So, my dream would be three movies with the Nine, and then a spinoff series of some sort in an HBO-like format. Where it airs is an open question. I think a direct to DVD business model might actually make sense pretty soon here, but cable or network is also a possibility if they don't mess with it too badly.
And Fox should in no way have a taste of it, ever again.

I am new here, and I know it is so not shiny to tell you good folk who have been keeping hope alive through the blackest of the black to be realistic, but I think the kind of series we would want is a longshot.
First there are the Fox issues raised by others.
Second, our premise is the movie is a big success. Now, dont throw mw to the Reavers, its fixin to be huge - but that means Joss and our shiny little cast are going to be huge too. Of course I would choose series, but only if Joss can keep it flying, with the cast we love.
Under those circumstances, the movies are our best hope I think, and if they run our of steam, a mini-series or two?

JTHOS1155, the key to getting tickets to the screenings seems to be 99% luck and 1% effort.
Your idea of going to the theater and looking for tickets may be valid. A few hopefuls at the May 5th screening pulled that off successfully. The post about trading tickets for a couple Jayne's hats comes to mind.
All in all, Browncoats are an eclectic sort, you never know what can happen.

Here's something to consider, how many TV shows have ever had 15 episodes in a row range from just really good to excellent? I mean no junk, no throwaways?
See? I can't think of one, either.
How long could Firefly have maintained this streak? A year? Two? The worst thing can't happen-it will never be a series everyone agrees was great at the beginning, and lost it around season 3 ( or 6, or whatever, you see what I mean).
It goes right from perfect show to perfect movies!
We can at least rejoice in that, right?
(...although a 'bad' season of Firefly would still probably be better than most of the other slime on TV....)

I'm one of those greedy ones that want both, but what about an alternative?
With all that is available on the internet these days, why not a Firefly series? It could be a subscription service, with a new episode every couple weeks, or even once a month, and we just download it.
Maybe call it Serenity instead of Firefly. That gets away from Fox, around the TV contract crap, and still gives us a steady fix. Then, as the other movies came out, they can generate more people to the site for their episodes between movies.
Not sure if this is a possible option, but I'd pay for that. Any other takers?

Many people saw Firefly for the first time on DVD. I think a TV series on DVD is a good idea, even if it was a monlthy DVD that you got in the mail through a subscription. However I figure such a thing would be hard to start up and even harder to get new people. Why would a TV channel advertise a show that isn't on their network, and who would see it if they are watching the DVDs instead.
With that said, I don't have HBO but I like Six Feet Under, Carnivale, and Deadwood. Thankfully I can buy the box set and watch it when it is over. Although I have to wait the whole season to get it.
I'd personally love if Sci-Fi got the series or even a spinoff (SG-1 is a spinoff and Atlantis is yet another spinoff). I don't watch the other networks much and I find thier re-hashed crime/medical dramas annoying.

I voted for series based on the idea of 2 seasons = 44 hours vs 2 movies = 4 hours. But, I have not yet seen Serenity, and likely won't until Sept. Also between seasons we wait 3 months, between movies 2-3 years. Of course I realize this is all in the hypothetical, and it's most likely that we get 2-3 more movies and nothing more.
However, Here's an idea for you Universal. You wanna get around the FOX contracts? And make a lot of money? We'd like for you to do that to. Give Joss a big budget for Film #2. They do movie #2 and say 20 episodes of the show on the big budget.(the sets will already be there for the movie, just leave it up for a while) Universal releases it all as the Delux movie DVD. The episodes count as extras/ deleted scenes. I'd pay $80-$100 for that DVD box. I doubt I'd be alone.
Crazy? Yeah. Possible? Yeah. Likely? Not so much, but I'll dream.

Where is everybody getting this false information about Fox owning the rights for Serenity???? After the series was cancelled Fox gave Joss free reign to find another network to pick up the series. This is why he shopped it around for 4 months before he decided on a film. Calling the series Firefly was the only stipulation. Serenity sounds as good a name as any to me. Fox owns the rights to the Fireflyseries that aired on their network. That is as far as it goes.
