If given the choice, Serenity television series, or 2 more films?

Series, no question.
I really hate waiting (personal issue). I can
handle the incredible over the top anticipation of
waiting for the movie only because the alternative
was no firefly at all. 
But I know, that come Sept 30, I'll see the BDM, then see it again, then see it again, .....ect,
but the thought that will be bouncing around my
brain after Sept 30 will be "OKAY, NOW HOW DAMNED
LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE?????"
"ONE YEAR?"....
"TWO YEARS?"....
"THREE?"....
"Grrrr, Arrgh. I hate waiting"

I'll take anything I can get and be happy with it... but if I had a choice I'd love a series. A big, shiny series that will keep me happy for a few years.
I'd be pretty happy with a Serenity spin-off, too. Even if it had different characters, but I'd be happiest with a few more years of Firefly.

I'd take series a thousand times over before I picked movie.
I've seen Serenity and I love it. Though I'd rather have new bits of the 'verse to watch every week rather than every 2 years or so.

Given the choice I would definitely want a new series on TV, so long as 'Versal was doing it & Fox was not involved in any way shape or form. I would also like to see the show handled like the network actually cared about the show and absolutely no interference by network execs.
I of course would only want a series if it is what the cast & Joss want. I would not want to see any of their careers or dreams hurt or hindered just to make us happy.

me, i'll take both, please - a la Star Trek. why not?
but i REALLY hope that somehow - and i really don't know how this is going to happen, but it COULD - Mr Whedon gets enough power/powerful allies from Serenity to wrest contractual control from Fox a whole lot sooner than 8 years from now. MANY things can change in 8 years; at least, our BDMs will be 8 years older...

Yup, I agree. I appreciate those who want to prevent the pain of false hope. But I don't think it's unrealistic at all to think we might see this back in a regular release format... and before the three movies are done. We'll just see how it goes.
Certainly no more unrealistic than hoping they'd make a major movie out of a tv series cancelled after ten eps.

you're right - totally agree (and, as you'll have spotted, i meant BDHs, not movies!).
i'm wondering exactly how well Serenity has to do to give Mr Whedon the leverage he needs, and how well we can reasonably EXPECT it to do, but like you, i really feel it's well within the bounds of possibility!
in my dreams, a new series gets a green light within a year of Serenity's solid box-office performance ($100m+ worldwide), which then gets shown on a major network as intended, building strong ratings within a season and going on to become the new (and imo better!) Star Trek.

Serenity being made into a movie wasn't unrealistic for many reasons. Firstly, Fox had told Joss they would be willing to release certain rights of Firefly. Hurray. Secondly, Joss has film writing experience. Hurray. Thirdly, there were certain people at Universal who really like Joss, and actually UNDERSTOOD Firefly.
Now, regarding the series...
Firstly, Joss is under contract to return to 21st Century Fox if he writes for TV again. Secondly, Fox still own the rights for Firefly's TV series until 2012 (they signed it for a 10 year period when it was first comissioned in 2002).
If the movie is a massive success, everybody is contracted to Universal for 3 movies. Fine, get them out the way. Then, if it'd made enough money, Joss Whedon could return to 21st Century Fox, and try to get Fox to release the rights to Firefly to another network. Or if it's 2012, he can move it anyway.
So, for a new TV series, we're realistically looking at either after 3 movies, or 2012.
And that's if Joss WANTS to pick it up on TV again. I suggest people go google on that front and find some quotes from him, or next time you see him, ask him..
Joss LOVES Firefly. He's also trying to forge a movie career, as are the actors.
Anyway, all I'm trying to say is that the chance of Firefly returning to TV this decade? 0%. The chance next decade? Maybe. It's possible.
In the mean time? Enjoy the movies. The TV series, for the next 5-10 years, *IS DEAD*. GONE. OVER. If it's reborn next decade, we'll have to see what's left of the production crew, actors etc.
The positive side, of course, is Serenity. People shouldn't be dismisith of that, cause you ain't got anything else in the mean time (except comics, Krad's books, games etc).
One final note: don't presume Serenity is going to do well at the box office. Don't predict hundreds of millions of dollars of ticket sales. It might bomb. Really, it might well. If the public doesn't take to it, it's all over.
If the movie bombs, no TV network is going to pick the series back up. Nobody would originally, and after a failed movie that wouldn't change things. It just wouldn't happen. High and dry.
So PROMOTE.
