They've made many mentions of Firefly way back in the dark DVD times, before the movie announcement even. I just don't think they ever ramped it up to comic form completely.

There was also this little comic gem from the folks over at The Nice Guy, who have lots of FF stuff scattered around their site -
A few drawings of the characters dressed as FF characters, some sketches, an ad for the DVD's, etc-

OT to an extent, but its PA related - give a little to get a little, y'know?
Just have to point you guys in the direction of today's comic because I have mixed liquid with electrical objects having read it - of course, given they like Firefly the PA guys had to be smart and funny:

Penny Arcade have definitely mentioned loving Firefly in newsposts before, if not in any specific comics. I don't think we can accuse them of having 'never embraced Firefly'
