So is there no direct download link for the HD trailer in DivX format?

somewhere, but if it's the same server as above there might be a problem.

anyway, get the qt version and mplayer for windows (along with the windows codecs if it doesnt work). a fast machine should play the 720p version ( http://images.apple.com/movies/us/hd_gallery/gl1800/serenity_m720p.mov ). the 1080p should be pretty useless for most, unless your display really has a resolution of 1920xX (or you just want to make some huge screenshots) AND you have a ridiculously fast machine (as in: i dont know if any current pc can play it smoothly at all).

on a slower machine you can still use mencoder (comes with mplayer) and either export to uncompressed avi (requires about 3.5gb) or recompress as xvid or whatever.

if you're on the universal board, there should be a couple links you can try (it finally got a search function *g*).

Am I missing something here? The MOV file requires Quicktime 7, and since I'm on Windows, I'm out of luck at the moment. It'd be nice if someone on the Mac could make this MOV into an AVI...

yep, youre missing that mplayer is available for windows and plays them just fine. stop believing what the companies want you to believe to make you buy their products ,-)

the only problem with other players is that they usually see "oh, mov file" and use the qt plugin that cant handle h264 in quicktime movies. mplayer can handle mov containers just fine on its own and hence has no problem with playing the h264 video and aac audio stream. if they would have place the same video in a standard mpeg or even avi container pretty much all players could play them.

still, you will need a fast machine to decode that monster in realtime.

There was a version of WhoIsRiver.com, but I've had to take it offline as it was using too much bandwidth (over 100gb a day).

Hopefully to return soon...

What sort of monster specs are we talking here?

How would my P4 2.66Ghz, 1GB ram, 128MB videocard go? or is my old girl a bit slow now?

it might be ok for the 720p version. i got a xp2100+ and i either get skipped frames and ugly artifacts or it's getting completely out of synch, depending on whether i allow dropped frames or not. but mplayer/mencoder is perfect to convert it to xvid or anything you like.

i did a x264 version at about the same size that plays more or less fine. xvid should be much better in performance and with a bitrate of about 6000-6500 the quality is about as close to the original as it gets (reencoding is always making it a little worse). or as mentioned above, if you have a lot of space and just want to watch it, you can do this:

mencoder serenity_m720p.mov -voc raw -aoc raw

and you get a huge (3.5gb) uncompressed file which should at least run fast enough.

my imac g4 lacks the grunt to play the 1080 too and it is pretty similar to the spec of the mini.

just another reason compelling me to buy a dual g5 tower with a 23" monitor beast :)
