Downloading eps, Right or Wrong?

I have no DVD player, only a DVD drive on my computer. I now have about a hundred DVDs, and it doesn't bother me to watch them on a 15" screen. What I wish about the downloaded eps is that they had closed captions and other DVDish features: slow motion, single frame, etc. But if wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak.

Do you, by chance, have a decent copy of Mrs. Reynolds? Ever version I've snagged so far has been buggy and stalls on both Windows Media Player and RealPlayer. Rather annoying, that, given the high praise the ep has received here and elsewhere.

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

If you're having trouble with watching the files, have updated your divx codecs? I had the same problem and after I updated it worked fine. Do a search for Nimo Codec if you're use Windows... if your using apple computers, try using mplayer.

Here's what the 'Firefly' U.S. broadcast states:

"...Ownership of this motion picture is protected by copyright and other applicable laws, and any unauthorized duplication, distribution or exhibition of this motion could result in criminal prosecution as well as civil liability."

Now there has been debate and rulings on what this actually means since around 1981 when Sony was put on trial by Viacom for the first BetaMax VCRs. The basic jist is; any show freely broadcast over the air was 'released' and could be recorded for archival/personal viewing. However, you cannot sell the tape, or charge your buddies to come over and watch it. For years 'dubbers', etc, and more recently VCD, DVD encoders have suggested that you are not paying for the broadcast but the labor and materials and that it is a 'service' for those who do not have the means to 'archive' these broadcasts for themselves.

The bottom line is, if money is exchanged for any of these 'unauthorized duplications', then it is a copyright violation and I believe they can burn you for up to $250,000 in civil damages.

As for P2P DL's, right now it is just the delivery agent for the 'broadcast'. In the near future they will probably try to throttled it through the "Digital Millennium Copyright Act" or some other similar law. They will most likely harrass/fine the ISP's until they boot you, but it will be really tough to stop and/or regulate. Plus the whole international factor.

Until then, I have 'Firefly' on VCD and you can too. The VCD's are free, but S/H is outrageous! S/H for the DVD's will be even more!

If it weren't for downloaded eps, I never would have seen the show at all. I'm a truckdriver, and a friend got them off the net for me.

Via these ripped eps, I got my parents and brother hooked on the show.

And damn straight, when the DVDs come out my wallet will be flying open.

(Assuming I'm sufficiently recovered from the B5 DVDs and the DS9 DVDs and so on.)
