I'm sure that someone is on top of this already, but if they're not...I'd like to have a Browncoat shindig at Dragon Con. Except I've never been to a con or Atlanta, and I don't have a clue how to set it up! So, I've posted on the official site ( http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com/serenity/index.html?fuseaction=for
um.viewtopic&t=10896
), and am looking for someone in the know or willing to point me in the right direction. Thanks everyone!!

Just to add to the great advice Fireflygal and BC1 has been giving, here's a little advice re: how to cut your costs: besides the food court (which requires actually *leaving* the con, and hey, who has time for that), I usually pack some "pack friendly" food that I can throw in a tote bag (see my store below for shiny Browncoat ones!) or backpack -- apples, protein bars (non-Alliance), trail mix, bottled water that I can refill if necessary, so that if something comes up that I just CAN'T miss, I'm not going hungry and getting headachy and surly.

As far as other coin that's hard to avoid spending, it has to be the Walk of Fame..the autographs tend to go for about $20 each. That's how a lot of those stars make their expenses to come to the con, as they're not always guests who are on the main schedule, and even if they are, they will likely charge you for each autograph, sometimes restricting you to only their photographs that they sell (which is an additional $5-10). I blew through most of my discretionary coinage here, and had to balance eating, getting other cool things I wanted, and how many autographs I could get. I missed getting some I really wanted; luckily I'm not a huge collector, but there were some people there who I am a fan of and would have liked the sig from.

Absolute best advice, as mentioned before, CALL the hotel, mention you're with DragonCon, and don't be picky about what they've got left. Also, find roommates. You're not in the room for much else but a quick crash or change of clothes, so it's really not a big deal, and cuts down on the cost tremendously.

Looking forward to meeting all the new Browncoats this year...and we thought last year was great......this year is going to be incredibly shiny!!!

P.S., What IS the word on the Browncoat ball? Anyone heard from SendMeAWave lately? I'm chomping at the bit to get going on planning!

Hey guys. I've been a long time lurker here, but just had to come out and introduce myself. I'm a D*C vetran and can't wait for this year! (I met some of you last year at the fan table. I'm the girl who's name is the same a a certain movie we are all foaming at the mouth to see.)

Anyway, I'm excited to meet you all and have a hell of a time with our BDHs!

Last I heard SHK, the vote that we took was meaningless and they were going to hold the Browncoat Ball around LA as part of a premiere shindig for the West Coasters. Disappointing really since the browncoat community voted overwhelmingly to hold it at Dragon Con this year.

As for Rich, I have not heard from him in awhile. No new messages and the planning for Dragon Con has kind of stalled without him. With his being local to the Atlanta area it is easy for him to make things happen, but he has been scarce for a few weeks now.

I am eager to get some planning done too so we can start the buzz about shindigs, viewings, etc.

Well, poo....doesn't mean we can't have a Mighty Fine Shindig (TM) at DragonCon, even if it isn't the "official" Browncoat Ball! I mean, after all, if most of the cast and Joss is going to be at D*C, why not have a big damn party???!

I'm concerned we haven't heard anything from Rich, and don't want to rain on his parade, but I think we need to start looking at options...maybe offered with the Buffy track? Someone posted that they work with the American SciFi Track (which Buffy is part of), and I'm wondering if we should start dropping a few lines that way.

I'm trying to get some word on donated (or at least cheap) items that we could use as fundraisers for either a fan suite (like they did for Farscape last year) or (my preference) to fund a BDParty...I'll have to see what develops.

My feelings exactly! Who needs the official Browncoat Ball? We will just have one heck of a Shindig on our own.

I am starting to believe you may be right. There has not been an email or post from Rich since February 27th. I have emailed him and am waiting to see if I get a response. I am getting a bit concerned though as we have less than four months to the Con. If we are going to make plans, we need to get started. We might want to touch base w/ the American Sci Fi track to see if we can reach the cooridinator for the Buffy track. She was great last year about helping Rich put the Firefly stuff together, but I can't remember her name.

I can check into a few things on my end. If we are going to do a Con suite I think I remember Rich saying it cost something like $1500.00 for the weekend. A might steep, but that covered all food and beverage costs. Maybe a call for donations might be in order. That or scratch the idea.

Might want to think about getting another SE Browncoat or two to step up and take the reins until Rich shows back up.

Gorram it, I wish I had an extra $2K lying around to donate for a con suite. How are we gonna invite the BDH's to the con suite if we don't have one?? Well, Nathan has an open invitation to my room...

I aim to misbehave

Ok here goes.... just gathering info right now.

My wife & I wanna go to Dragon-Con. And we wanna go with you. ((I think)) We're looking for another couple to room up with & help share the cost of such a shiny trip. We are both in our early 30's and love Firefly. We don't smoke. And we don't trash hotel rooms. Last I recall we are very easy to get along with, and we're fun. We live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. And we wanna go to Dragon-Con. If your interested message me. Or E-mail me. stillshiny@gmail.com

Thanks for the boost FIREFLYGAL

Actually, I could still use some assistance. Does anyone have a copy or know where to find a "schedule for the event" We may need to arrive late on the 2 or leave early on the 5th, but don't want to miss any of the main BDH events. I've looked all over the Dragon-Con site & can't find anything "solid" in regards to this.
