Looks like things are a bit on the brown side there on land. The oceans haven't risen all that much, from what I can see.

Earth that was is mentioned for about 10 seconds at the start of the movie. I think the screenshot you've picked is from that bit.

no, its from the nearly the end of the trailer and the ships seem to move away from the planet...

Could be the part of the movie where the history of Firefly (or should I say Serenity?) is explained. The ships could be leaving Earth to escape whatever happens to it.

And trailers rarely follow the order of the movie.

after the universal-logo disapears, you can see a litte flash at the west-coast:

maybe this is where the ships startet...

i guess this could be the beginning of the movie, with the explaination, what happend to the earth that was...

And judging by the size of that flash, methinks Houston has Problems of its own.

Being born and raised in Houston and along the Gulf Coast, I'd say the flash (just after the Universal logo rides out) is in the approximate position of New Orleans, Louisiana, the well-known home of our nukular stockpiles.

Probably, an over-zealous Mardi Gras'er pukes on the wrong thing, and there goes the neighborhood...
