the "six rebels"

i came up with an idea to figure the "six rebels" named in the trailer. at the start when mal is talking to, presumably, the crew in the voiceover,there are close up shots of 5 cast members. simon, zoe, inara, jayne and river. them plus mal makes six. of course, we know the deal with zoe and mal. simon and river are easily figured as rebels. jayne is never on the right side of the law and inara has something she is hiding too. six rebels. does that make sense to anyone?

That would make sense. You could also look at it as the rebels make up the core crew: Mal (Captian), Wash (Pilot), Zoe (First Mate), Kaylee (Mechanic), Jayne (Public Relations), and Inara (Ambassador). The others are not really part of the crew, though they do perform essential functions. They're mostly along for protection or the ride. Of course, this is from someone who has seen the pilot and one other episode so far, so it's entirely possible and indeed likely that I have absolutly no frickin clue what I'm talking about.

I've been thinking hard on this too. Mal, Zoe, and Wash are givens. Inara is a registered companion and not likely a rebel. I count Simon and River as fugitives not so much rebels. But who knows. That leaves Kaylee, Jayne, and Book. I figure Book is a crewmember by now.

My guess is Mal, Zoe, Wash, Kaylee, Jayne, and Book.

We'll see!

Yes, but Book isn't really a rebel either.

I do agree with you about River and Simon, as well. You can be a rebel and not be an outlaw.

Inara isn't really a rebel, since she's a registered, respected companion.

So that leaves Mal, Wash, Zoe, Jayne, Kaylee.

The trailer is a bit inaccurate, but so what? It's meant to pull people in. WE know there are actually three more...;)

Simon: You...you came for us.
Mal: You're on my crew.
Simon: Right. I guess I just didn't...you don't even like me.
Mal: You're on my crew. Why we still talking about this?

"A passenger with a past" = River
"Six rebels on the run" = Mal, Zoe, Wash, Simon, Kaylee, Jayne
Inara, and Book both have accepted places in the alliance as a companion and a shepard, the just run with the rebels.

I only wish they hadn't followed "six REBELS.." with "an EMPIRE in pursuit" Don't really want to be compared to that other film.

Yes. Plus, Inara and Book aren't on the ship at the start of the film (although Inara, at least, clearly joins Mal later).

As I've said in another thread, just because Kaylee and Wash aren't gun-toting fighters wouldn't make them look any less like rebels to an Alliance ship that apprehended them. They're part of the crew, after all. (And both have done crime...) Think of Wash's line to Jayne at the start of the pilot.
