First timer - Should I watch DVDs before I see movie?

how did you ever stop watching after one episode?

But, yes! Yes you must watch the entire DVD set before going to the movie...
there is still a week..
two episodes a night will do it (they are only 43 minutes long, so that is only 86 minutes per night)....
But it is insane to put off watching 'Firefly'!

Hey thanks guys. I was definitely planning on watching all the DVDs anyways. I only watched one episode b/c it was the last one they showed. I was all, where did it go? Why is someone messing with my mind that way!?! I'll try to watch them all before next week, but I'll definitely at least go up to Objects in Space b/c the movie's supposed to take place 6 months after that one or something.

Then again, this is a test screening. And I could offer the opinion of someone fairly new to the verse. I'll have to stew on this one for a bit.

Yup, that will do. Just start with Serenity-the pilot and go through Objects in Space. You don't need to go past that for now. 14 hours on Saturday should do it. That's how it usually works.

Seriously, you don't realize how many people really are jealous that you're getting to see them all fresh and new - from the end of the Train Job, to why the rules of Book's order might make River run and hide. (see how I'm not spoiling?)

Watching the DVD is before you see the movie would be a good idea;however, if you don't see the DVD's first, you will be able to follow the movie with out a problem.

I'll just answer it this way: this show was canned in what? 2002? And here we are, a thriving community of fans that grows in numbers each day. We still discuss those very few episodes, and we are very passionate. There is something very special about this show. If you loved BUFFY, and liked the one episode you saw, then you owe it to yourself to watch all of them. I think you'll enjoy the movie more, and get a bigger kick out of seeing everything on the big screen.

Not that I think you need to be conviced. ;)

I know what you all mean. It's just not fair that they put these amazing shows out there, and then pull the plug before the fans even get to see a season finale. Thank God for Joss' perseverance and determination. According to trivia on IMDB, Alan Tudyk said that they'll be making two more of these films to complete a trilogy. Sure hope that's accurate. I just want good things for all the people who work in Jossverse.

Don' get carried away, there. Here's the exact quote from IMDB "According to an interview with Alan Tudyk, this is the first movie in a three-picture Firefly contract with Universal", which is accurate. Joss & the crew are under contract for two sequels and, if the BDM does well, Universal will finance them.

It's not really necessary...but if you can, it couldn't hurt. It would just add more levels to your enjoyment!
Joss did a great job of making a film that Firefly virgins could enjoy immensely.

It's probably too late, since the question was originally asked half a month ago, but if I had the chance to see the BDM for the first time without having seen Firefly, I'd go for it. After all, you can always watch the entire series in fourteen hours, including meal & bathroom breaks, on Saturday, and still see the movie a second time that weekend. Heck, you could catch the late show Saturday night, then watch special features & rewatch the 7 eps with commentary on Sunday, and still make a third show that weekend, now knowing all the behind the scenes stuff from Firefly. How cool is that?
