Yeah, I understand where you're coming from, Gavida. Been beating this notion around over on the Serenity board. There's someone there who claims to be with the production who says, don't worry. Says that the over the top action and fast-paced cuts and music dubs are all promotional addons. That eases the mind a bit, but they also keep reiterating that the tone is different because its a movie (?).
Anyway, I actually liked the trailer a lot, but mostly because its our crew in action. How could I not love it. But if I stand back a few paces, this is exactly the kind of trailer I'd ignore in a theater if I wasn't already a fan.

Ohmigod - I was so busy thinking, "Where's Book?" that I hardly noticed the lack of Kaylee.
I think there's plenty for existing Firefly fans to look forward too (although am slightly concerned that Simon seems to be dressed like a Gestapo reject in half the photos I've seen), but is the trailer likely to bring in any new fans?

Morning after thoughts...
1) I agree with those who have expressed doubts over the various captions. I would've preferred to see the trailer go out without an explicit link to BtVS etc. I doubt that its inclusion will sell many more tickets, and it might even turn some away. The number of Buffy fans who haven't already heard of Firefly/Serenity must surely be outweighed many times over by the people who a) don't know of Buffy at all, or b) see Buffy as "just a teen show", and may therefore dismiss Serenity on the same basis. Also, quoting the adulation of websites - without any print media at all - always makes me sceptical... anyone can write anything on a website. And it's not as if respected film magazines haven't commented on Serenity - take _Empire_ in the UK, for example.
2) Curiously, I find myself a little less enthused about the film after this trailer than I was before. As some have said, too much action, not enough dialogue and character. But... have faith in Joss.
And bewail the low attention span of the mainstream audience that necessitates such trailers...
3) I love the fact that the River-fu looks like a dance recital gone deadly. Seems very in keeping with the character. Plus, we'll finally be able to use "balletic" to talk about the fight scenes and mean it literally.
4) No lines for Inara. Boo! But that exasperated glance she gives Mal near the end (after "It usually is.") is our Ambassador, all right
5) "You can't stop the signal" seems to accord pretty well with some of the speculation here over River's 'programming'. My guess is that some sort of trigger has been hypnotised/built in to her brain... or that she *is* the signal, and can rouse all her fellow scary kids. Against the Alliance? As somebody said above, seems a shame to put the crew of Serenity so centre-stage in the fate of the universe when that was never what the TV show was about - but then, it isn't the TV show. Still, one day I'd love to know how Joss would've developed these plotlines (if he would have developed them) given the time and space of TV format...
6) Just downloaded it so I can watch frame-by-frame. Growing on me.

First of all, the trailer is very well done. I'm not denying that.
But if I saw that without knowing Firefly...I'd probably say, "oh, another movie I can't wait to NOT see."
However, I'm a somewhat unlikely Firefly fan to begin with
Despite all the (not wholly unjustified) railing against Fox, there were problems with the series as a marketable product. It was just too many things. How does one market a sci-fi/ western/ drama/ romance/ action/ caper/ horror/ family/ existentialist/ post-war/ comedy /character study with sprinkles of Chinese dialog? Those of us who saw it know that it was a masterful blend of these things, but an awful lot of folks will either find something in that list that's a big turn-off or just think it must be a mess.
Universal is apparently aiming the trailer at what they think the biggest potential market is: action/sci-fi. Joss'll just have to sneak the rest into the actual movie.

it's so BIG.
I get that concern - even share it somwhat - but here's the thing: the big was always there. Both River and the Reavers were always big things, they just weren't generally dealt with in big ways on TV. It's pretty hard to imagine any way either situation could come to a head that wasn't big.
I'll just put my faith in Joss that "big" won't preclude "real, and ... personal"
Some other notes:
Since no one else seems to be mentioning it: Book *is* in the trailer. There's a quick clip that looks like it's set planetside in a tent with Kaylee holding a child in the foreground, Mal at a table mid-ground and Book standing behind the table.(edit)
or rather I just remembered seeing it there. Apparently I just saw that photo in the official site's gallery and mentally inserted it into the trailer. Sorry.(/edit)My only critisism: I can already tell I'm going to miss David Boyd's Cinematography. His work on the show was soooo damned beautiful. Ah well, maybe they can get him back for the SECOND MOVIE.

I ran into an unitiated non fan yesterday...showed him the trailer, and he was intrigued, but, he said if there's a movie coming out, then there's no reason for him to shill out the money for the series. Damn depressing, I thought. I hope this isn't a sentiment that catches on...
Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Just a thought.
This was the thought that struck me as I read it, but knowing Joss it is more likely a double entendre, referring to something in the BDM as well as the fact that Fox cancelling the show did not kill it off.
