'Tru Calling' finale cancelled: Fox sucks big time AGAIN!

So Fox cancelled "Tru Calling" just as it was developing into a good show, then renewed it, then cancelled it again after 6 episodes were filmed.

I figured we'd never see those episodes until a DVD set came out, but then Fox decided to pull the final episodes of the recently-cancelled "Point Pleasant" in favor if the last few episodes of "Tru Calling." (That in and of itself is another crappy Fox decision: Why replace one cancelled show with another cancelled show when they could've given "Point Pleasant" fans, at least, some sort of closure?).

So, a few weeks ago, they start airing the remaining episodes of "Tru Calling," but they're showing only 5 out of 6, choosing to air episodes of "Simple Life" instead of the show's finale.

I hate Fox so bad it's not even funny.

Epguides.com notes that the finale was "originally scheduled to air April 28, 2005 at 9pm ET. It was pulled for two repeats of "The Simple Life: Interns" posssibly due to its Xmas theme which would be out-of-place in April."

I'm sure the geniuses at Fox will use the Christmas theme as their justification, but it's just an excuse for their idiocy, since they've done similar stuff before.

Moral of the story: Don't bother watching any genre shows on Fox EVER. You'll just get shafted in the end.

Strangely, I was talking on the telephone with my brother yesterday, talking about various television shows came up. I talked about Firefly and how Fox seems to cancel things all the time. He said how they cancelled Tru Calling and I said, I hadn't heard that yet, got on the computer and went to the Fox website, not there. Going to their fan site I read what they had done.

On another note, going to ebay, you can buy a UK (supposedly plays in all Regions) that have all 6 episodes of this season, including the finale they didn't give us. Just passing it along.

I suppose I'll rent it on netflix just to see the final episode(s) I missed.
but it is VERY annoying,
they finally get a great writer (Jane Espenson)
to add some surprises and humor to their show,
and they finally let us see how good the show could have been w/those surprises,
and then they pull the rug out from under us.

And for Paris Hilton! (gag me with a spoon)

Well, that's F*X. One of the things that really bugged me the first season of Tru Calling was the total lack of humor - not one real joke the entire season. This season (the six 2nd season episodes filmed), they had added some humor (plus some innovative plot twists) and it made a HUGE difference in the show. I was actually starting to look forward to seeing the next episode each of the last four weeks. So it figures that F*X would yank the last episode in favor of something (Simple Life) that I look forward to not watching - ever, even if they would pay me to watch it.

This makes me wonder what the future of that company is. I mean, they can't keep pissing off fans indefinately. Eventually they will start loosing money, and somebody's going to have to do something--whether it be a change of management, some actually intelligent people who have the ability to forecast for the future, or if they're just going to fade into the background...who knows. But something needs to change soon. They can't just give us a taste of a show, give the fans only enough time to really start to love it, and then yank it in favor of rich sluts who are just showing off!!!

It's a disappointment, and it's disgusting.

There are some seiously 'ed up people who work at FOX T.V.

I had missed a few episodes from the first season, so rented it thru Netflix the last couple of weeks, taping the new ones for viewing later. Even though it didn't have much humor, I still thought it was very good and that they ended the season on a very tense and dramatic note. It didn't hurt that Jason Priestly was very easy to dislike.

I'm not sure how likely it is they will release just six eps on DVD, so hopefully someone will be able to offer up the sixth one for download soon.

The future of Fox is Dark, and miserable. They are just unwilling to compromise on anything. Fox is just completely out of line, they have such a chaotic program line up they couldn't tell you themselves what will be on next week. I just started really getting into Tru Calling. Here is a great idea for Fox: Only broadcast crappy reality shows, it seems those are the only shows that have a chance on your network. Never watching another show on Fox, they had more than one chance to redeem themselves.

To be clear: I've seen the 6th episode.

I understand why they didn't air it.

It's a "filler" Christmas episode. It's also a bad filler episode.

Doesn't resolve any of the plot lines at all. Wasn't a finale - Fox pulled production while they were still shooting the episode with no notice at all!

Basically it's just totally random - if Fox had any sense they would have swapped the order with episode 5 (I'm actually surprised they didn't do this - it's Fox's speciality).

Honestly, I don't think it matters it it was an excellent episode or a crappy one, what I find idiotic is that they aired 5 of 6 episodes but won't air the final one.

As for whether it's just filler or not, I'd've liked the chance to judge that on my own. From what I've read, the episode furthered at least three storylines (a new angle for Tru's powers, Davis reveals Tru's secret, Tru's brother finds out that their dad is working with Jack).

The fact that it takes place at Christmas was, apparently, an attempt on the part of the writers/producers to have Fox air the episodes at the end of 2004.

While "Tru Calling" was never a great show, it became decent (and even very good) in the final third of the first season, and that continued, in general, in the episodes this season. Although it's certainly not all because of the introduction of Jack and the increase of mythology, Priestley is wonderful at being vapidly evil.
