An EE. My brother is an EE. And I majored in it for a couple of years before I switched to something a bit more fun (heck...if I'm gonna sit in front of a computer all day doing CAD work, might as well sit it front of it doing things a bit more interesting...not saying what you do is boring.). And Edmonton is cool, always wanted to visit that huge mall you have over there and ride those rollercoasters.

I've seen it more then once.. a moderator with too much control (or none at all..)
I'm not saying your one or the other. as I simply don't know..
I've seen it too, which is why I started this place. The master plan was to create a place where the members of the community will govern themselves and collaborate on buidling a community that they wanted and I only poke my nose into the community's affair if things really got out of hand.
I was expecting Firefly to last at least a few years so that I can construct this site over time as the community grows. The cancellation of the series really mucked things up because this site is only half finished. My notes are pages long as to what I wanted to do with this site. And since technology wasn't an issue because I wrote all the code, the only thing working against me was time and real life. Suffice to say, if you're worried about me being a dictator of some sort, don't. I really don't have time to go and read every single message or to keep track of what everyone does on the site. I'm sure if things start getting out of hand, someone will email me.
Besides, one of the things I wanted to add to the forum was a way for members to handle trolls themselves through a demerit system. Kinda like three strikes from three differnt users and your post gets moved to Troll Country.
Point is, I wanted to build a fansite that's beyond the standard fansite. That's the goal. What the commnunity does with what I build is up to them. And I believe at some point, as in real life, the community will reach somekind of natural equilibrium and manage itself.
Anyway, that's the plan. Cancellation sucks, doesn't it?

Ever have a small party at your house, everything goes great untill the 'really HUGE PARTY' down the street gets shutdown.. next thing you know you have 200 people coming to YOUR house looking for a party?
Hey, I kinda answered that and didn't even know it.
Again, I trust those at the party and the 200 people crashing will have some sense and realize that its in their interest to behave and let the party last as long as possible. Otherwise, everyone goes home. And no one really wants that, right?Quote:
Whenever I used to go to a house party (many eons ago), I ALWAYS knew who the owner of the house was. In this case I have no idea and it bugs me.
But why does it bug you? We go through life not knowing so many things that we should, while ignoring things that we shouldn't. Things are simply "is" and the only thing that you do know for sure is yourself and what you want.
If you behaved at the parties you went to, then it shouldn't matter who was throwing the party. If you liked what you see, you stay. And if you didn't like what you see, you leave. That's freedom.
Like you, I'm against censorship. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be on the web. I truely believe in the free flow of information on the web. But along with this openness comes responsibility and accountability. A lot of people leave those at the door when they get on the net. That's probably where I draw the line.
Everything we say or do has consequences--good or bad. The minute someone becomes irresponsible on this site and begins to cause harm to others, that's when I step in. Because it's my resposibility as a site owner to prevent that as much as possible. It's the best I can do short of shutting down the site. That'll be a real
