Finding Serenity - due out on Friday

I live in a mid-size Midwestern city (c. 300,000 souls) and my B&N has the book on the shelf, $17.95 + tax. Just thought you might like to know.
Gotta run now and purchase it (holding my copy at front cash registers)...

Went to two book stores this morning, Waldens books didn't have it in yet. I found it in the sci-fi section of B&N. I had my brother and a friend with me and was like "ok I found Serenity, we can leave now!"

I live in Southern California and I just called my local Barnes and Noble and they have it as well. Looks like that's the bookstore to get it at right now

2. How long have we got left to wait before we get the movie? My calculation says nigh on 6 more months. That's 6 more months of tight-lipped, still-getting-nuthin' on the Fireflyverse.
(NB: And I ain't counting the screenings, because I'd never attend one, and I don't want to hear from those who have. When the finished movie comes out, I'll go see it.)
3. Have you got your DVD set? Got your BlueSun t-shirt? Got your orange tuque? And yet you're still considering plunking down a twenty for a book of essays from noted authors and sex therapists and TV critics speculating on the meaning of Firefly, and talking about how much they love it and why... Just like we do here.
Why are we still talking about this?
As a final sales point, having a BDH sign your friend's book is gonna make you look all manner of foolish...

And when Keith's book comes out, create as big a stampede to your local bookstore (preferably right next door to the theatre in which the movie is playing) as you possibly can. Buy your own copy of his Serenity novelization (and Dragon Precinct, too). If you're old enough to mow lawns or wash cars, you can scrape together the dosh to buy copies of these important books; if you're under 12, then it's okay to 'borrow' Mommy or Daddy's copy, if they'll let you. And as is surely true for a lot of us, if you're struggling to make ends meet like grandma trying to get into her old wedding dress, remember: That's why God gave you two kidneys. So splurge a little, already.

Got home today to find a box from Amazon sitting on the table. I set a new record for package opening. My first thought was to immediately notify fireflyfans that the April 1st delivery date was accurate. The second thought was to do a quick browse of the book. Guess which won out?
Well, I'm almost done (*with the first pass gestalt read through) and loving every minute of it. Crack. Pure, unadulterated crack cocaine.
Now I just have to come up for air and compose a review for Amazon.
Oh, and if Zoe is your favorite character (like me), then I highly recommend starting with the essays by Michelle Sagara West and Tanya Huff. Loved 'em.
* added for clarification. Definitely tens of hours of reading pleasure ahead. This is not a one and done type book.

You might want to explain that you're obviously some kind of speed-reader to have finished the book in a single night; otherwise, folk'll think they're not getting their money's worth.
It's not that small a book, and it's really not that quick a read. Of course, I slow down a little when I'm trying to savor a book, as opposed to rushing through it. I chewed on it (carefully) for a couple of hours in the dull moments at work last night and only got through Jane Espenson's introduction and the first four essays.
It's not 'bubble gum' literature, either. There are intricate ideas expressed in detail, using +10th grade English. (NB: In case you didn't know, most people don't write at a 9th grade level.) It's not a frilly memento of a book...

I pre-ordered my coping of Finding Serenity from Amazon and received it on Wednesday. Needless to say, I'm almost finished with it. I have mixed feelings on the content of some of the essays, (especially the one about Jubal Early and OiS), but all in all I felt it was well-written and insightful. I thought the "top 5" from Jewel was a wonderful piece to end with, and made me a bit teary-eyed.
Most profound observation in the book? If Firefly had never been cancelled, Serenity would debut at the start of the show's FOURTH season on the air. Doesn't that just make ya weep?
Definitely pick up this book if you crave all-things-Firefly, but as already mentioned, it's not a fluff read. Take the time to enjoy the essays and even think about them a little bit afterwards (I know, it's hard!). Besides, it's worth it just so you can yell "Spoooooooooooon!" during the reading of a critical non-fiction book.

Mercedes Lackey's essay on the illusion of freedom in Firefly just about blew my mind.
...and I'm only 1/3 of the way through the book. Er...'savoring it' as Zoid said...yeah, that's it...savoring...don't have to sound out them letters one at a time or nothin'...just taking time to enjoy the slow seepage of mind-blowing insights into my brain...

I'm about 2/3 the way through. Read part of it this morning riding in the car with my mom. I think my favorite part so far is "The Rise and Fall(and Rise) of Firefly (the behind-the-scenes story)" by Glenn Yeffeth. I couldn't stop laughing when I read the Dear Joss, letters.
Firefly vs. the Tick is very interesting as well, you'll love that part if you like space monkeys or Santa.
