Somehow the Haunting escaped me, I thought I'd seen almost everything!!
I'll look for it to rent or buy. Mr. Wise is a great director. The synopsis I found makes it sound a LOT like Legend of Hell House! But of course, Haunting came first.
And, if you like a little martial arts with your creepafying flicks, a Hong Kong movie entitled "2002" is a lot of fun! It's Ghostbusters meets Fist of Fury...

Yeah Mr Wise is a very great Director. The day the Earth Stood Still, and The Andromeda Strain - perhaps my all time favourite Sci-fi (Maybe ~ I dunno - I still go for the cheesier 50's fair...)
Likewise I'll hunt down Legend of Hell House too also Hong Kong ghost stories are my secret passion. So thanks for 2002 tip.....

So, you know of Hong Kong film, 'eh?
Sammo's Encounters and Zu are known to me, as are Bride with White Hair and Heroic Trio.
Hot War is a good sci-fi actioner as is Avenging Fist, but 2002 is my hands down favourite, I feel it has the best blend of fantasy, action and comedy. Along the same lines as the others, yes, but a little higher tech due to being more recent.
But I never saw Mr. Vampire...

Bride with the white hair sounds familiar... Does it mostly take place in the apartment of a disgruntled office worker -who comes home to find a ghost has tagged along?

Bride with White Hair is a period costume piece w/swordfighting and spirits and stuff, considered a classic by many, however I'm more a fan of hand to hand.
The story you described is unfamiliar to me.
Suddenly a few people at work are tellin' me to rent Shawn of the Dead, I just might. Seen it?
My other favourite scare flicks are Halloween 1 & 2 (the rest of the sequels are redundant, at best).

Not I. And the credits did give me pause; few films written, directed by & starring the same person are any good (edited, after reading a subsequent post, to add: this is not intended as a reference to Americana, which I have not seen). There are two full-screen DVD editions in Region 1, but a widescreen edition is available only in Canada. So, not unlike one of its reviewers on Amazon, I'll wait 'til the next time I'm in Toronto to see it (actually he didn't wait, but drove from Baltimore to Toronto just to buy the widescreen edition). Don't have enough time to keep up with all the movies I wanna see, much less the ones I've never heard of. But here are a few:
the Ugly: A British horror movie, though really more of a psychological thriller. Kept me guessing till the end.
Lagaan: A nearly 4 hour long Indian musical about cricket and taxes. Not sure how they made it work, but it does.
May: Another horror movie, part Frankenstien, part Carrie. I can't help but feel bad for the main character/villian.
BTW Chrisisall, Shaun of the Dead is a GREAT movie. Funny, scary, sad and even a little romantic. Go rent it today. 
For those who've seen Shaun of the Dead, doesn't this look like Shaun at the end?

As Callmeath said you Really should see Shaun of the Dead. Good ol' fashioned British comedy horror. We're very proud of it over here. The Writer and star is the guy who co-wrote the TV show SPACED have you guys heard of that?

Shaun of the Dead is a work of serious genius!!
Its on a par with the likes fo the Princess Bride and So I Married an Axe Murderer for weird comedy value - you should really see it!!
