You misunderstand - that story was outside the 5 year arc, and JMS wasn't going to shove in a cosy resolution to every tale so that the B5 universe was 5 years of events and then vacuum outside of that.

I don't see how there is a misunderstanding. JMS didn't have to limit the 5th season to covering one year. (And, as a point of fact, he didn't since the finale was 20 years later.) And he didn't have to resolve everything within the last season (nor did I ever say he did.) But he should have given us more in Season 5 to make it seem something other than the afterthought that it ended up being. The resolution to the Garibaldi-Bester story is probably the most obvious thing that could have been included.

Point of fact - It was the Earth year 2258/59/60/61/62... 5 years of TV, 5 years of B5 history - yes Deconstruction and Sleeping in Light went beyond that, and other episodes flashbacked and forwards, but it was a year of TV to a year of story.

Season 5 dealt with the aftermath of all that had gone before, as it was always intended to.

By the way, has anyone else noticed that the DVD version of "The Fall of Centauri Prime" is missing the tag?

The VHS video contains the tag, which includes the scene where Londo gets G'Kar out of jail. The DVD omits the whole tag (and hence this scene) and therefore loses continuity. It's a real bummer - now, in order to watch B5 in order, I have to watch the tag on video, and the rest of the episode on DVD. (I could watch the whole thing on video, but then I'd lose widescreen).

What's going on with this?

The resolution between Bester and Garibaldi was covered in the last book of the "Psi-Core Trilogy"

Its not that at all. Look up the JMS Archives and you will see in his Usenet posts that originally the shadow war and liberation of Earth was to have stretched into season 5. Both arcs were wrapped up by the end of season 4 because at the time it was still unknown regarding a 5th season and JMS wanted some closure. They also filmed
"Sleeping in Light" at the end of season 4 just in case renewal didnt happen.

I am already familiar with the whole season 4/season 5 thing. I am simply stating that I think JMS did not use season 5 as effectively as he could have one he found out that he was actually going to get a season 5.
