I say we start a pool on how many years it takes before we destroy the world with nuclear war. You know, someone calls 2 years, someone else 3, etc. But all the winner gets is bragging rights for about 5 seconds. How does that sound?

"I'm having one of those things - a headache with pictures."

"Of course I'm right. And if I'm not, may we all be horribly crushed from above somehow."

Okay, here's my call: Never.

Human beings will make the world unsuitable for human beings long before they do any real damage. That's because humans are worryworts. As soon as there's rampant radiation sickness, eveyone's going to revert to reaver form, and they will be incapable of making more nukes. Sure, we already have enough nukes to destroy the Earth, if A) they all work, and B) they are evenly distributed. But in reality, half of them will be aimed at israel, and the other have at DC. 3/4 will be shot down, and 90% of those that aren't will never explode. The only other areas strongly effected will be the launch sites, which will occassionally detonate one on their own heads by accident, thus rendering the area too deadly toxic for anyone to ever enter again, and also probably detonating or destroying the remaining nukes. I suggest we all move to Australia if this happens so we can say WTF?

You should never give powers to a leader you like that you’d hate to have given to a leader you fear

Aztecs used the term firefly metaphorically, meaning a spark of knowledge in a world of ignorance or darkness.

Why would you believe any of those stories?

The idea that we're even close to running out of weapons is entirely implausible.
