Yeah... Saw you shot up to 11th place today, Brenda. Sweet.
I didn't even know women had a hockey team, but it looks like either the finals or the semi-finals for that event is the US vs. Canada too.

It is good see that we are slowly crawling up in the standings.
I think most of the countries there have women hockey teams. I know the Nordic countries do and of course Canada and the US. Not sure about some others.
And today the Canadian women played the US and lost. Only by one goal and it was in overtime. So Canada takes the silver and the US gets gold. But there will be a next time. *evil laugh*

NGL, Brenda... but because my old man was really into the hockey and was actually watching the 3rd period of the game before it went into overtime I kind of was rooting for the US team to win, just to make him happy. For whatever reason he decided to watch Women's Hockey, although he's boycotted the entire Olympics otherwise because of some of the athletes coming out and speaking against America. By the time I got off the phone with him, I had already known that the US tied it up with about 2 minutes left because he got excited all of the sudden. Up to that point, he was kind of ragging on Team USA because they had beaten all of the other teams up to this point something like 31 goals to 7 or something like that. And that included winning against Canada's team in the Round Robin earlier. He said they were choking and were going to lose it in the end.
I hadn't looked into it after that. I didn't know if they won or lost until I saw your post here.
Sorry about that. Maybe next time.

If it's any consolation, my old man is positive the US Mens hockey team is going to get crushed by the Canadian team, so it should be a wash.

No worries SIX. I was watching the game before lunch or before I left. I saw Canada had one goal and yay! we were going to win. Then the US came and got that goal. All I could think was Noooooooo! I had to get going at that point was just hoping. There is always next time for the ladies.
I looked up if the men's teams have played yet. And like your dad said they haven't. So we have one more chance to as Hulk says, "Smash" *evil laugh*
Because where's the fun in a rivalry if you can't be down your opponent.

Heh...
It's cool talking with my Dad about sports, even though I don't really pay attention much. It's something he really enjoys and enjoys talking about. He hangs out a lot with my youngest half-brother not only because they live a lot closer, but they are both really into things like statistics and really get into the sports. Years ago I kind of blew my dad off when he'd talk sports like I'd blow my grandma or brother off when they started talking religion. Not really a blowoff, but that's when I'd start doing other things while talking to them and only half paying attention. But I find myself remembering a lot of names and stats and things about something I don't even care about just to let him go on about it, and I think he gets a kick out of it when he talks about something the next week and I remember what he was talking about the week before leading up to it.
And then he watches things I wouldn't think he would. I guess he's watched every Women's hockey match, and he hasn't watched a single Mens match. He hasn't watched any Mens hockey since they did what the Basketball team did and allowed professionals to play instead of the previous rules that only amateurs could compete in the Olympics.
So he was really rooting for them to win and the whole phone conversation he kept talking about how they were going to choke on the last match.
So as excited as you were to see that 1 goal they were up the whole time, it had my dad all bummed.

I believe my old man said that the last time the US Mens Hockey team won was back in 1980 when they made that movie with Kurt Russel as the coach. I was a baby.

Yeah... he says that especially after they allowed the Pros to play, Canada just wipes the floor with us in Mens hockey. I didn't even know it, but according to my Dad today most of the players in the NHL are from Canada even though most of the teams are in America. And he said that Canada's team is made up of a lot of players that play for the US teams.
So if you're not working, I wouldn't miss that matchup.
It should look like the scene when Hulk threw Loki all over the room.

I'm glad you were talking to your dad about the hockey. Yeah, talking about things like that can make you remember all kinds of things.
I remember the whole thing with the basketball.
Oh, yeah. The news lady told the sports guy last night that everyone at the station was watching the game and getting all excited. Then when we lost she said, "All the air went out of the room." And I can understand that. You burst our balloon. We held onto that one goal lead for quite a while then you just had to sneak in and ruin our good time. That was so not cool.
Then add insult to injury by beating us. Ugh! The ultimate insult.
Well, it is one of the few times we wrap ourselves in the maple leaf and wearing Team Canada shirts. And proudly singing the national anthem.
Had to use my calculator to find out how old I was in 1980. I was 16 and still in high school. Think I might remember that movie. Would have to look it up.
Your dad is right. Most American teams in the NHL have a lot of Canad

Oh wow... US actually leapfrogged into 2nd place. I didn't think they were going to catch up to Italy. No way that they're ever going to take first though. Norway is untouchable at this point.
C'mon Brenda. Canada HAS to get a few more. Can't let Japan beat you. You manage to get past them than you get a finish in the top 10 at least.
I'm rooting for you guys!

Just took a look at the standings and we are in 11th place with 17 medals in total. We've got to get a little higher.
Canada's men team play the US Sunday morning their time. So it is like 2am or something in Canada and the US.

Still ahead of China.
Every time you move a step up it seems like they're right behind you. Almost every day I've looked, they were one place behind Canada.
Ya gotta keep China out of the Top 10 and take it from Japan.
Don't want to jinx the men's hockey team, so I won't say nothing about that right now.
Finger's crossed.
