CNN data guru Harry Enten has warned that one of Donald Trump’s most critical voting blocs—Americans without a college degree—is rapidly slipping away, marking a dramatic reversal from the coalition that powered Trump’s past electoral success.

Analyst rocked as voters 'shift heavily' against Trump on key issue
Once one his strongest performing issues, President Donald Trump’s immigration policy has continued to tank among voters amid his administration’s chaotic immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota, and, according to a new poll conducted after the killing of Alex Pretti, has reached stunning new lows among voters that left one election analyst rocked.
“In these elections that are won on the margins, particularly in the swing states, independents are a really critical group,” said Marc Trussler, senior elections analyst for NBC News’ Decision Desk in the outlet’s report Wednesday. “To see them shift so heavily on one of the president’s key priorities is really telling.”
The chaos has dragged Trump’s favorability down significantly, with a private GOP poll from January revealing that a staggering 60% of independent voters rejected Trump’s immigration policy outright, a significant increase from when the president took office. And now, in the wake of two high-profile killings by federal immigration officials, those numbers have only worsened for Trump.

WASHINGTON (AP) — About 6 in 10 U.S. adults say President Donald Trump has “gone too far” in sending federal immigration agents into American cities, according to a new AP-NORC poll that suggests political independents are increasingly uncomfortable with his tactics.
Views of Trump's handling of immigration — which fell over the course of his first year — remained steady over the past month, with about 4 in 10 saying they approve of the president's approach. But the poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research also found that the Republican Party's advantage on Trump's signature political issue has shrunk since October.

Provision Trump supporters cite for nationalizing elections really proves he can’t: expert
William Galston, a centrist thinker and senior fellow at Brookings Institution, wrote in a Wednesday editorial that President Trump does not have the authority to nationalize elections. And the United States Constitution itself plays a big role in why.
“To clarify this issue, the place to begin is the Constitution — specifically, Article I, section 4,” Galston writes, quoting the relevant provision which states that election logistics “shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of choosing Senators.”
Concluding that “this language plainly divides authority over congressional elections between the states and the U.S. Congress, with no independent role for the president,” Galston moves on to Article II, section 1 of the United States Constitution “which vests the ‘executive power’ of the federal government in the president” and is cited by Trump supporters to justify him nationalizing elections. Yet according to Galston, this “cannot be cited as a source of ‘inherent’ power in areas where the Constitution has expressly placed this authority elsewhere.”
Ultimately Galston disputed Trump’s claim that he can nationalize elections under “the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States.” Instead, Galston argued, “the president has no independent constitutional authority to determine election procedures” and “his only authority is to enforce the laws that Congress has written and that he (or his predecessors) has signed into law.”
