Saved them from what?
Avatar 3 cost $1 Billion to Produce. It took 17 days for it to make that back.
It won't even hit $2 Billion, let alone the $2.5 Billion it needs to break even.
This is a major loser for the studio.
They will NEVER make an Avatar 4. This series is finished.
It would be literally impossible to do now. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY is ever going to see a $1 Billion production budget for a movie again (at least in today's dollars... We might all be millionaires before I'm dead because of inflation... who knows...?)
There is zero chance they could ever bring the budget for Avatar movies down to the level they should be at without lowering the quality, and James Cameron would be unlikely to put his name and effort into it if he didn't have all the money in the world to play around with, so they wouldn't even have Cameron's name with whatever budget they can come up with.
I could see it being turned into a TV show one day where the story could be told the way Cameron initially envisioned it, but it would have to be pared down to something reasonable, with an entire fleshed-out story from now until the final scene, and people who cared would have to reconcile with the lower production values if they want to see the rest of the story on the screen.
Maybe $1 Billion more spent on a 12 episode show to speedrun the story that James was going to slow-play until 2040 in the theaters? They spent more than that on the Lord of the Rings trash show. Didn't Disney spend something stupid like $235 Million per Episode of Secret Invasion???
I don't know if even Netflix or Apple or Amazon have that kind of money to burn on gambling anymore in 2025 though.

That's a hilarious lie. The Budget for A2 was $400 Million. Up until yesterday, Bruce had $1 Billion as the production cost for A3. Now he too is showing only $400 Million for A3. The fix is in.

Okay, fine... I don't own any Disney stock, so I don't give a shit since I won't be losing any money here.
Let's go with the fake numbers now.
$400 Million. Needs $1 Billion to break even. Makes around $450 Million profit instead of losing $1 Billion.
A2 made $2,322,902,023 worldwide in 2022 on that same $400 Million budget, which would be a profit for Disney of $1.1 Billion (not including at least a bit of inflation that occurred in the previous 2 years).
A1 (all the way back 2009) made $2,923,706,026 off of only a $237 Million budget, back in a day long ago when you only need to make 2 times the budget to break even. Meaning that the first movie made roughly $2.65 BILLION, not adjusted to inflation, and more likely dangerously close to $5 FUCKING BILLION in today's dollars.
So from at least $4.4 Billion in profit...
Down to maybe $1.2 Billion profit... (-73% decrease in profit)
And finally settling at around $450 Million in profit for A3. (-62.5% decrease in profit)
*NOTE ALSO: As stated above, the 1st movie was only given the 2.0RoT Break Even multiplier. The 2nd and third both have the 2.5RoT multiplier applied, so the gap between the losses between 1&2 would be less and the gaps between 2 & 3 are even greater if you applied the same multiplier to all 3 movies).
They will not be making a 4th Avatar movie with that trajectory. Certainly not another 3+ hour epic that cost anywhere near what the 2nd movie did and the lie they're now telling about how little the 3rd movie did.
Looking at the drops between the previous two movies, my very early guess is that no matter what the budget was for a 4th movie, not only would the 4th not generate even $1 Billion, but would more likely be an $800 Million to $1 Billion worldwide box office movie. (at today's dollars, not whatever year it would come out).
On a $400 Million budget, it's already lost money. And even if they're totally stupid over there and most of them have already convinced themselves of these new numbers, that still leaves them with these two unfortunate truths.
1. If a 4th Avatar movie were to come out and the best case scenario plays out, it's a hit and we make another $200 Million. Not the headlines we thought we'd be making on this franchise anymore, but we're happy with that. While on the flip-side, we could easily find ourselves following the trend of the previous movies if we don't do EVERYTHING RIGHT on the 5th movie, and end up losing ourselves nearly as much as we stand to gain if all the stars align.
2. Shit... We killed another golden goose.
Enjoy your false win here Disney, and moving around all that money to make it look to your investors like your fake version of reality is actual reality.
Especially when your Acolyte toys have gotten a markdown from $25/pc. to $0.49/pc.

It's a real lucky thing for you that Zootopia 2 swooped in to bail your asses out again this year, but I think at least one of you sane people left on that board, assuming t

The Housemaid has currently made Lionsgate $222.5 Million profit of a $35 Million production budget, and that's at RoT2.5, which is probably too high a multiplier for a middle-sized studio like Lionsgate, so the profit is probably already a bit higher than that.

I hear the Lefties got all pissy this weekend when Melina's documentary ended up being the highest grossing documentary in over 10 years.
You couldn't fucking pay me enough to sit through that thing myself, but my schadenfreude boner approves of this message.
Please, Democrats... Just stop. You've got to stop.
I'm starting to get scared that I'm going to end up with dangerous levels of priapism when this is all over with what you're doing to me right now.
