I don't know if it's been mentioned but LOST (ABC) is in it's third season. The first two seasons can be found on dvd. And the last eps in 2006 had Capt. Reynolds on it. Worth checking out.
Smallville is a good show with interesting characters although some of the story lines and special f/x you can drive a truck through. Also there is an eps in season 2 or 3 which has the actor of fan favorite one-eyed Jaynestown renegade Stich Hessen in it.
Did someone mention "Six Feet Under" 
Just bought the series for the Mrs. for Christmas. She loves that show and although I haven't seen it I'm sure I will.

Veronica Mars. I never saw the show; but, everywhere on the internet I looked for my shows, I saw Veronica Mars. So, I joined Netflix, just to check out Veronica Mars. After a few episodes, I had to go out and buy the DVDs.
Believe the hype. This is the best show on TV, and no one is watching. Sound familiar?

I think I started watching VERONICA MARS the end of summer before it's second season, if I remember right. I kept hearing it was the "new" BUFFY, but I didn't tune in until Joss started plugging the show, and especially after hearing that he (and Charisma) would be appearing in the second season. Yet another thing I'm indebted to him for!! However, I was already so hooked on the last eps. of Season 1 that I ran out and bought the DVD's to catch up and understand the relationships better. On the surface, it seems like a show for teens, but it's really for anyone who loves mysteries and complicated, endearing characters.
My other current favorite is LOST, but honestly, if I had to choose between the two, it's VERONICA all the way!!!

I don't really watch TV that much either, but one of my favorites that's on TV now is How I Met Your Mother on CBS. It's very funny, and it has interesting plots too. At first it seemed like it would just be an average sitcom, but it's a lot better than other ones that I've seen. Also Morena Baccarin was in an episode a while back, so it even has a connection to Firefly!

Maybe I'll watch this one later. It's funny you posted that today because as I was working on one of my projects with YT on in the background, I think it was Asmongold that popped up talking about the WB/Netflix merger and he said the same thing about this very topic.
I think he said both that there are movies that would have been much better suited to the TV show format (and obviously still could be, and should be), but that there are a ton of TV shows they've been putting out, especially on streaming services, that only needed to be one single movie wrapped up in a little bow.
He's made the assertion that in order to be a TV writer, you must be a much better writer than a scriptwriter for a movie.
I don't know if I fully agree with that part of his argument though. I think you have to be an excellent writer as both a writer for a good movie that people want to watch as much as one who can do a good TV show. They are just very, very different skills.
For instance, one of the hardest jobs in Hollywood right now, IMO, is being the guy who is in charge of making Movie Trailers that put asses in the seats. What does he really have to work with? Why do you think all the trailers have to ruin the movies now? It's because Movie Trailer Guy has this bullshit thrown at him, and he doesn't have a way to make the trailer compelling without putting in all the spoilers.
Hollywood's problem is that they DEIified everything and they don't have any good writers or directors anymore. They're all trash with an agenda and no real skills.
If I were to write something, it would have to be a TV show. I have the mind for that. I can keep all the canon stuff in my head and make sure not to deviate from the past. I wouldn't need to use throw-away lines in every episode to explain away otherwise canon-breaking scenes and dialogue because I keep painting myself into a corner and/or I'm not intelligent enough to write anything interesting. I wouldn't need to constantly put in stupid exposition scenes every 15 minutes where characters tell each other what happened to get us caught up. Characters who already know what is going on and don't need to have it explained to them, but fuck you... if you don't like it then don't watch it.
But I know that I couldn't write a good movie. I would NEVER be able to condense everything interesting down into a 90 minute format, and I would absolutely lose my shit any time anybody took my script and tried to shave it down any more than I already did.
It's two entirely different skills. I would never personally say that the writers of my favorite TV Shows are inherently better writers than those of my favorite Movies.

I'll bet they've been doing that for a few decades but you're just noticing it right now because somebody else is.
Ain't like I didn't grow up with 90210 and my grandma wasn't watching Soap Operas for decades.
I think the mistake that everyone is making is thinking anything they're doing is "Korean". It's pop culture. For decades in Korea and other countries it was imitation. I think in a lot of ways they've made the leap from imitation to competition and sometimes even superiority on that front.
They've out-America'd America, if you will.
We're not seeing anything that is legitimately "Korean" when we see their Anime or their soap operas anymore than I'd take credit for something like American Housewives or that Tiger dude show that everyone couldn't stop talking about a few years back.
