What IS wrong with American TV?

With the understanding that I am an American, I must state my belief that what is wrong with American TV is Americans.
They willingly watch total drek like reality tv, and unfathomable (for me anyway) things like Nascar, Golf and Fishing and actually seem to prefer 'news' that consists of two pundits hurling insults at each other rather than actually having reporter doing any investigation into the truth of a matter.
Whole genres are ignored or watered down into background plot for action movies because Americans have shown repeatedly that thinking shouldn't be a part of their entertainment.

The Walking Dead was awesome. For the first 5 or 6 seasons. Then they ruined it because they had no ending planned and wanted to make spinoff after spinoff after spinoff and milk it until nobody cared.
By season 5 of TWD, you had 15 Million viewers per episode. And that was just on TV, the very night a new episode came out, not including streaming that night or after the fact. It might be one of the last TV shows ever made where that many people were watching it and talking about it the next day.
How many people are watching this?
EDIT: Checked RT and it has 98% Critic / 92% audience. Strangely though, there is no count of how many audience scores went into that.
8.3/10 on IMDB with 62k ratings, while despite the huge falloff for TWD after season 7 still has an 8.1/10 with 1.2 MILLION ratings.
Even more strange is that I can't 'seem to find Kingdom on MetaCritic at all. Granted, you put "Kingdom" into any search and see how many results you come up with. You need filters. I filtered out everything but the TV shows on MC and there's only 8 results left without our show being one of them.
Articles like this just annoy me. Everybody wants something to be the next big thing so everyone gets wrapped up in FOMO and turns their brains off to watch it.
You can write about something you enjoy (and even something you're being paid to pretend you enjoy) without putting in ridiculous claims like it's better than the last greatest thing. We already get enough of that bullshit from the Movie Industry, touting the "highest grossing movie ever" almost year after year because most people are too fucking dumb to know what inflation is and how it works.
Let's see if it's still a "masterpiece" after they wrap it up. Though I've never heard of it until today, it's been around since 2019. But a look on IMDB says that it's only had one season and now season 2 is coming out. That's a huge freakin' gap. I wonder if they did anything to explain away why all the actors and actresses look so much older and/or how many people needed to be replaced either because the young ones look far too old to reprise the role for season 2, the old ones died, or just because of scheduling conflicts with other projects after they'd left season one back in the past before Covid was part of the vernacular.
There's just so many things to consider here, and those boasts by some no-name dummy in an article come off as pretty mindless.
Mindless articles about mindless media for mindless people, I suppose.
