Alas, my professional stunt days seem to be over. My friend is working exclusivly in Hollywood for now and the only stunts I'm doing are in little short videos I make with my 6 year old. Usually involving fighting giant robots ( no grand effects, just simple forced perspective).Recently his birthday party was held at his kung fu school, and I let him flip and throw me around to the surprise of the teachers.
Doctor told me 15 years ago my spine was messed up and not to expect to walk too well when I was fourty.HAH! Like to see them doctors today. I can kick well over my head- in addition to walking well. Kung fu is good for ya.
Dune-1984- extended version- anamorphic- is coming out here soon. You a fan?
uh-oh, sandworms, gotta- wait! The sabre wielding dwarves are attacking it! cool.

That's a shame. But doing stunts for your kids films sounds better :)

Wish I had kids :( That's just the sort of thing I'd wanna do with my kids....And take 'em go kart racing. Kids look so cute in go karts!

However glad to hear you've defied the doctors and are still perfectly mobile. Good news. How'd you do your back injury? Wasn't a stunt was it?

I am a fan of David Lynch's DUNE I thought it is was a vastly underated sci-fi film. It's sorta Epic like I think all sci-fi- should be. Sadly there are too many low budget efforts out there. (although I am a sucka for the 50's fair!)

So yeah very interested in the widescreen re-release.

Ok I don't want to alarm you - but six o'clock! Razorbacks!!!

I have scholeosis ( straight/curved spine, not outwardly visible, but can be troublesome), and once I was doing a 16mm film where I had to get tossed and land upside down against a metal dumpster I misjudged and rammed it head first, leading to some micro-fractures in the cervical area aggrivated by violent head twists (taking punches) later that day. So like Jackie Chan, I could have been a little nicer to myself, but like it's said, pain is just right now; film is forever.
Yeah, I'm drooling at the release here May 10th of Dune, theatrical AND extended versions, both anamorphic! I only hope they took the ridiculous narration out of the extended one(177 min.), it was real distracting. However, the theatrical(137 min.) version has better pacing to it, I think.
I didn't mention that I draw some. I'm trying to do a graphic novel, but the story is coming very slowly. I don't like inconstantcy in a tale, therefore I keep going back over it to re-think details instead of finishing it. But it'll come, sooner or later. I'll send you a copy when I finish (this year...?). It's science fiction, of course.
I'm also waiting for a Ralph Bakshi animated film, Fire and Ice. It's not on dvd yet in the states, not 'till July or thereabouts. Have you seen it? I really like rotoscope in animated movies, gives a real immediacy to the action.

Did you know about your back trouble before doing stunts? It sounds awful but then I'm a wuss. At least I am now, but in my youth.....

In there lies many a truth Chrisisall - I've started countless comics, graphic novels and illustrated stories - It's a problem I suffer from also. I can't stand the way when I start a comic the drawing towards the middle are of a better standard than at the start - so then I rework the beginning artwork only to feel like the ones in the middle aren't up to scratch - and hence the viscious circle begins.

The only thing I've managed to complete was a little story book of Animals going from A-Z for my niece and three nephews. That was fun.

I've written loads though - even my own mythology which I'm in the process of writing in the computer (coz I did years ago freehand). Right now I'm writing a pitch with two other friends for an idea for a TV show, which we're hoping to pass by the BBC.

Nope not heard of it. A while back I was really into all sorts of animation, but I kinda saturated myself with so many shorts and films that I sort of lost track of things. Still I'll keep an eye out for this. The one I'm looking forward to is Steamboy I love the stuff Studio Gibli comes out with.

Steamboy, by the guy who did Akira? Looks promising. About the back... that which does not kill you makes you stronger. Sort of.
Say, do you also like Airwolf(first season) by any chance? Or Blade Runner? Or Dark Angel? Those are some of my favourites along side of Firefly.
Uh-oh, transgenic reaver replicants, gotta hit the turbo.

Airwolf I did like all those years ago - I rememeber the theme tune, it was one of the first tunes I taught myself to play when I bought a keyboard - and I love that Helicopter. WoW!

Blade runner yes but it's a mood thing. I have to be in that 'zone' when watching that film. In fact now I think about it I can't watch it with other people, it's a film I have to watch on my own.

Dark Angel - nah. This didn't do much for me, I found it a little contrived in terms of narrative, but I rememeber seeing one or two action sequences which were well done, but ultimately It didn't have enough of a draw for me.

-Racing a suped-up! honda civic at suzuka (GT4) tought track must focus.

You're right about Dark Angel, although I bought into the main character, so I let the stupid stuff slide(and there was a LOT of stupid stuff in the second season).
I used to watch Dangermouse with my stepson (I have a son and a stepson) and it was one of the few shows he watched I genuinely got a kick out of.
What ep of Firefly is your favourite?
My faves are the pilot, Ariel, and Out of Gas.
Train Job and Objects in Space are also great.
I guess Out of Gas was the one that really blew me away. Packed with backstory and real character.
Almost got me to tearin'up.

Yeah it was a shame about Dark Angel...

I'm so glad Dangermouse is understood in the US, because it is very British. All the accents are regional, and some of the gags were very dependent on this - so it's good to know it is appreciated universally... When I was growing up I wanted to be an animator for Cosgrove Hall - but they quit after Dangermouse I think :) Anyway....

As for favourite Eps of Firefly it's maybe in this order:
•Objects in Space : The pace is beautiful , the dialogue is thoughtful and Early is simply fantastic !

•Out of Gas: Masterful direction - I think this is maybe my favourite directed episode from any show of Joss. David Solomon is an unsung hero. This episode is brilliantly done - comes second only to 'Objects' on account of being a little similar in teleplay to the Angel Episode where we see Angel for the first time at the Hyperion Hotel (can't remember the title) in the 50's

•Ariel The production value looks a more polished in this one, and the fact that Jayne's true intentions comes out makes it very watchable.

•The Pilot Firefly for an hour and a half - can't be bad. :)

Did you ever watch a show that came out about seven or eight years ago called BRIMSTONE about a cop sent to hell after avenging the rape of his wife, but is given a second chance - by the Devil - to return to the world if he retrieves 113 escaped, damned souls and returns them back to hell?

This show was mind-blowing and unrelenting. Probably too bleak for primetime TV but it was brilliantly conceived. It had this great visual look where all the 'reds' were diminished so the world was presented through tones of blue, and green. It was very odd, but worked so well with the theme.

Sadly cancelled before it really had the chance to make it's point, but it was a great show....

I hope you guys don't mind me jumping into your conversation here :). Can't help myself.

Dark Angel, took suspension of disbelief to the limits, but I did enjoy the first season. HATED the second. Its the only series I can think of that after one season I was worried it would be cancelled and after two I was praying for it to be.

Loved Brimstone, has there ever been a better Devil?

DANGERMOUSE. Goodness I loved that show growing up. Last year I found a friend had an old VHS printing of some episodes and laughed myself silly when I borrowed them. Of course, that was nothing compared to what happened soon after. I borrowed a recording of (I believe) the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio show. At one point the characters end up on this Ark captained by a guy who wouldn't get out of a bathtub. I kept listening to the guy and thinking there was something familiar about the voice. I about died laughing when I realized that the voice actor was the same guy who voiced Dangermouse.

Don't mind if another browncoat drops in.
I bought the Dark Angel dvds, so now I can watch the whole first season, and the 7 (!!!) okay episodes from the second.(I would have only bought the first, but it ends on SUCH a cliffhanger.)
Never saw Brimstone,sounds intriguing.
Here's a question: am I the only one who loved Spiderman and disliked Spiderman 2? How come Spidey didn't kill Ock with his first solid punch to the face? or second...or third...
