After a lifetime of "Same as it ever was", I'm cool with it.

I find the honesty rather refreshing.

Venezuela used to do gangbusters, but it's been a failing nation for a long time now. The People on the streets seem pretty thrilled about this. At least right now they do.

That tells me they didn't like the way life was going for them bad enough to welcome change, no matter what the change was. I hope they're still happy with it 5 years from now. 10. Whatever.


Everybody has a fucking opinion.

Yanno... Maybe we're just going to manage a few things and not steal all their "stuff". Rebuild some antiquated infrastructure and make sure oil keeps flowing strategically so the Russians and Middle-Easterners can't gang up so easily with China and push the world off the PetroDollar, at least for a little while longer. And maybe the People of Venezuela end up getting a big boost in the quality of their own lives in the process, especially if there is new construction and modernization efforts that will need labor and their economy starts meaningfully rebounding for the first time in decades.

How do you debate with anybody when everybody is stupid and only thinks in headlines?
