I’m laughing as I type this because you are apparently still promoting Marxian economics as a better way. Wolf doesn't say it, but it is what he is about. He is just stirring the pot in the video.
We replaced a lot of the manufacturing with investments in the future. We discovered new technologies. Trump has destroyed future investments as well. I listened to Wolf and he is unaware of what Peter Zeihan said. Why we created globalization and how we used it to our advantage. Wolf mentioned nothing but job loss.
And all he did was complain. He offered no solutions. He thinks we can bring all the manufacturing home. He sounded like that. We can't, we need to make new and stronger alliances. Mexico and Canada to name two. Both Trump turned into our enemy. Facts signym, I deal in facts.

The USA is drowning in food. It is the most overfeed country in the world. Why would anyone want to produce more food so that there will be more farmers and more wasted food? Sure, we could stop importing food and grow more fruit and vegetables in the USA so that will be more field workers picking fruit off trees and harvesting vegetables, but why the hell do that? Find something better to do with your life than stoop labor. A factory job is NOT a better way to spend life than farming.
What the USA has a shortage of is good sense.
