The funny thing about that War of the Worlds movie is that its just a shame they did it so poorly, and it was really just a 90 minute advertisement for Amazon Prime.
I think that the premise is pretty interesting, and there really could have been a good movie there. It's certainly "different", in an industry full of nothing but "safe" sequels and reboots and remakes and is in desperate need of finding ways to be different.
Ice Cube was just not the choice for that lead. He can be good in non serious roles and he's got some comedic chops, but he'll never make the leap to serious movies like Jim Carrey did. He's not a good leading man either. Supporting roles are where he belongs.
Have you watched it? Did you notice that while they're showing the screen you're sometimes shown the time of day on the bottom right of his screen and the passage of time never makes any sense?
How do you fuck that up when you're making a "tech" version of War of the Worlds like this? Details matter in regular movies. They matter a hell of a lot more than usual in movies like this.
I'd like to see somebody else who is competent try this style of movie again. Not for War of the Worlds because that's already ruined and you can't have a re-do on it, but any number of movies could be candidates for it.
Hell... They already ruined The Matrix with the 3 shitty sequels. I think it could be cool to make a movie in this style using the original Matrix movie as the backdrop. You could see the entire movie from the viewpoint of a government employee inside of the simulation watching events from the movie and other events that happened before the movie from the perspective of somebody who views Morpheus, Trinity and Neo as terrorists, and they're working with the local police, military and agents to try to bring them down.
Maybe make the whole movie a prequel without Neo in it at all except for them making mention that they're looking for some sort of "chosen one". With current AI and de-aging technology, they could probably add a whole lot of new scenes of what Morpheus, Trinity and the rest of the crew were doing before they finally found Neo. It would be a really cool way to make a Matrix Prequel, from an entirely different perspective.
I hope somebody tries to make a movie in this style again.

I hadn't heard about it until my old man brought it up.
My first thought was that it was a remake of the late 90s/early 2000's Anaconda movie that I think might have had Jennifer Lopez in it?
I thought. Oh. Great. DO THAT. I've always been saying that we need to stop remaking good movies and just remake shitty ones and turn them into good ones.
Then I saw it was a comedy. And I told my old man who was in it.
And then he said well... I've got two reasons I won't ever be watching this one.
I guess Paul Rudd is pretty woke too. I wasn't aware of that.
Shame what Jack Black did to himself.
Oh well.
