Yanno... I really like Kevin and always have. Probably the biggest defender of Waterworld for decades before it finally started gaining the cult classic status that it truly deserved...
But I can't help thinking that this might just be Karma biting him in the ass for when he was buying tons of extra costumes he didn't need for Wyatt Earp to try to keep all the costume makers too busy to make the costumes for Tombstone.
Tombstone, as you know, was awesome and, unarguably, the far superior movie of the two. Wyatt Earp ended up being an almost shot-for-shot facsimile of it, and a pure yawn fest by comparison, despite Kevin Kostner's best efforts to throw his weight around and derail it.
Unpaid costume rental fees, huh? Hope that wasn't for Wyatt Earp, or they're going to kill him with all that interest.
I really like Kevin. Not cheerleading his downfall or anything.
Just pointing out Karma when I see it and it always gives me a little dopamine hit through schadenfreude whenever I get to bear witness to it.
Still love ya brother. I might watch Tin Cup this weekend.

And hey... in my eyes that puts right to bed any notion that you need to "see yourself" on screen to relate to any character.
I was just telling Brenda about how great of a read Jurassic Park: The Lost world is and how I envisioned the main character (essentially, the reader's avatar) as Helen Hunt from Twister the entire time I was reading it.
Now I'm telling you that bull-headed, washed up, fake pro-golfer Roy McAvoy was my spirit animal. And since it's been probably 15 years since I've seen it, it's not even current-year me's spirit animal. I was relating to that character in my mid 20's into my early 30's. Couldn't have been further apart from Roy McAvoy if I related related to Cheech as his wise caddie and friend instead.
On second thought...
I won't watch that again. They picked the Hollywood ending. I forgot that part.
I thought he hit it in the water and was disqualified. What a boring, Democratic Party, Hollywood ending.
He already lost. To himself. Because of himself. No reason to give that feel good constellation prize "win" at the end for no reason. I dunno. Maybe they had some real smart shit to say in the last 5 minutes that justified it that I don't remember too, but boy did re-watching that scene make me cringe in 2025... especially that triumphant music. For knocking in a hole-in-one on what was really already an octuple bogey. Gross.
Don't ever go back and rewatch your favorite's kids. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
