Until such time as...
A) FOX decides to air the as-of-yet unseen Firefly episodes,
B) ANY network decides to air repeats of Firefly, or
C) An official DVD set of Firefly is released...
WE are the acolytes of this show. This means it is up to us to make up for the mistakes of FOX and put Firefly into its intended light in order to build the fanbase and reduce any lingering "confusion" surrounding this awesome show.
I believe it behooves us to follow a few simple guidelines when creating dubs for others:
1. Do NOT charge people for your dubs (beyond postage and media costs). eBay is tempting, I know, but try to resist. If you feel you need further compensation for your dubbing efforts, use the barter system (ie: "you can send me chocolate")
2. Present the episodes in their intended viewing order:
Quote:
1. Serenity pt 1
2. Serenity pt 2
3. The Train Job
4. Bushwacked
5. Shindig
6. Safe
7. Our Mrs. Reynolds
8. Jaynestown
9. Out of Gas
10. Ariel
11. War Stories
12. Heart of Gold (unaired)
13. Objects In Space
14. Trash (unaired)
15. The Message (unaired)
3. Pass along the highest quality dubs your equipment will allow (assume what you pass along will be used as a dub master itself).
4. STOP dubbing when/if official versions of Firefly are released or broadcast and BUY the official product yourself!
A little ethics go a long way and seperate us Browncoats from the pirates (ie. Reavers) and the FOXes(ie. Alliance).

Personally, apart from the non-airing of Serenity, I like the episodes in the order FOx aired them.

Please keep in mind that by eBay regulations and copyright infringement laws, putting your homemade Firefly DVDs or VCDs up for auction is forbidden. It still happens a lot due to the fact that eBay simply doesn't have the resources to monitor every little thing that winds up on its pages. They count on their own members to police the territory, and often they do...recently a full print of a Star Wars film was up on eBay, and the legal eagles from Lucasfilm trounced the seller pretty hard.

Hi,
Point for point reply:
1. This is what I've been doing since I first started offering the DVDs I made. I traded some discs for artwork to make them better, I have even sent a couple gratis to people.
This past week I've spent every free waking minute of my time (and my wife helped as much as possible) producing DVD sets for people. Today I tallied up my costs vs sales (materials only - none of my hours of labor are counted), and I've made a grand total of $17.12. But, that went out the window when I add in the 5 full color sets of DVDs I donated to raise funds for the Browncoat drive.
2. Besides the pilot, I didn't mind the order in which they were aired which is why my discs were produced that way (pilot first, rest as aired). Plus, if you produced the discs in the intended order, how would you go back in and insert the missing 3 if they do show up? All you have to do is navigate to a different ep if you want to watch them in a different order.
3. I am doing this. Ask anyone that's received my sets
4. Absolutely!

I can vouch for TRS80, I have a set in the mail from him. the price is only for his materials, very cheap for a set of dvd's, and he gets things done so quickly! :-) i'm gushing, I know, but he was really good to do business with. Best of the dubbers!

The character development flows much better when viewed in the correct order particularly in regards to River. Give it a whirl yourself! Firefly is Whedon's baby and we know how it was intended to greet the world.
Remember, changing the viewing order was one of the ways the suits at Fox f*cked with Firefly.

So far, I'm dealing strictly with VHS, so the linear nature of episode presentation is pretty much set. And, as I am trying to get new people into the show (people who are not yet fans of Firefly nor Whedon)... I doubt said newbies will be inclined to look up the proper viewing order of the Firefly episodes. Thus, getting the eps in order is up to we, the dubmasters.
When the unaired eps finally see the light of day, dubmasters can adjust the Firefly dubbing order accordingly for all new dubs unless the show is picked up elsewhere or a DVD set is announced. In that case, it is recommended dubbing operations cease entirely.
These were just guidelines! Do whatever you want with them.
My main point is that we are now the unofficial audience-building salespeople of the fantastic show called Firefly!! No reason to treat this show like a used car when it is a fine new machine.

The order Fox aired the episodes in couldn't have completely destroyed the quality of the show, or we wouldn't have all these fans here now.

I have 2 things to say
1) if im going to go steal tv shows by braking some gorram copywrite laws i will do it the way i please! i dont enjoy people telling me how i will burn copyed tv shows thank you very much, ill watch the epps out of order if i feel like it
2) that being said some of what you said has a point, dont be a goof!, go out and give your vcd's and dvd's to everybody who would like it and more but put an effort into it. Anybody who does something stupid like killing the quality so bad so you can fit half the series on a floppy disk should be draged from their cars and beaten i say this only becasue ive seen it done with good series and movies and it makes me want to cry.
let the world see firefly in all its... well its "shiney-ness"
AND if they do bring out a firefly epps on dvd set or vcd's or even underpants for god sake go spend you money, the more money the better, its for a good casue.
Dear diary, Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy,
Today we where kidnapped my hill folk never to be seen again, it was the best day ever.

About that airing (burning) vs viewing order - I have made labels for my sets which were burned in airing order - the labels show the proper "date" code so people will know which show comes in which order. (Some of us aren't as talented as others when it comes to the production of these things.)
