What they're not telling you in the headline is that there are now 40 out of 50 states where only 1 out of 3 Fourth Graders can read at their own level.
Democrats did that.

Just geeking out here... some nitwit decided 20 or more years ago that phonetics was too old fashioned and that we needed a revolution in reading and instituted the 'whole word' aporoach.
Yes, I realize the English language, being a mishmash of Latin, Greek, Germanic and other origins isn't phonetic. But whats the point of having an alphabet if you're going to treat each word like a Chinese idiogram?
We kind of make that mistake with a lot if things. Instead of building on the past we have this notion that we'd be better off scrapping what was done in tbe past ;and starting fresh.
SOMETIMES you come up with profoundly useful approaches like that, but most things become useful thru a process of evolution.

They just got $300 more per year out of me on property taxes by shoving the referendum vote in an off-year primary cycle election that nobody votes for. In a town with 12,000 registered voters, only 1,600 people voted in that election. I was one of just under 700 people who voted against the raise, while they conned 900 parents to go vote for it by lying to them and telling them it would only be about a $20 increase on their yearly property taxes. (Had I not successfully fought my property taxes, my additional referendum payment per year was closer to $500/year).
They knew they had to do that immediately, because once everyone got their 40% income tax increase because Joe Biden*'s administration made housing prices soar, they'd never get that opportunity again. Even on an off-year primary.
Then there's the $37 Trillion debt the US carries, with much of that having been pissed away on making Americans the stupidest collective 1st world country.
I know you were joking, but it's really not that funny.
Especially when I'm being forced to pay more money out of my pocket for the next 7 years on this referendum to help make other people's kids stupid.
