"Bambi" initially lost money upon its 1942 release but, through re-releases and international sales, it earned a worldwide gross of approximately $267 million.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Initial Release (1942): The film was not initially successful, and Disney lost
money on its first run.

Re-releases and International Sales: Over time, through re-releases and international distribution, "Bambi" became a major financial success for Disney.
Worldwide Gross: The film's worldwide gross is estimated to be around $267 million.
Domestic Gross: The domestic gross is estimated to be around $102 million.
International Gross: The international gross is estimated to be around $165 million.
Production Budget: The estimated production budget was around $858,000

Oh... So it initially LOST money for Disney in 1942. Thank you Google AI. You've
been most helpful.

That makes the inflation adjusted numbers for this much, much worse than I originally
assumed it would be.

I'm going to see if I can dig up actual numbers and if I can find them we'll settle
this thing once and for all.

More information from Bruce's page...

He doesn't have any receipts for it before the 80's, but it appears to have made $5,723,384
during what appears to be a one-week/two-weekend re-release in 1982 and another $24,960,324
in 1988.

Without knowing the full details on how much it made in any of the other years, let's re-do
the inflation math based off of what we DO know now.

FACTS

1. Bambi Grossed $102,797,000 over the course of 46 years in theaters. None of this is adjusted
for inflation, so since the releases were roughly 7 or 8 years apart from each other, knowing
what the film made every release is EXTREMELY important if you want to know what the movie
actually made in today's dollars.

2. Bambi Grossed $5,723,384 in 1982. It grossed $24,960,324 in 1988. Now we know that
nearly 1/3rd of the total lifetime gross needs to have inflation adjusted for the 80s and not 1942.

3. Bambi lost money upon its original 1942 release. Per estimates, Bambi cost $858,000
to produce in 1942. Let's be EXTREMELY generous and say that even back in 1942 they considered
a movie a flop if it didn't generate 2.5 times the production budget, even though the ratio they
needed to reach was nowhere near as high as it is today. That means it earned less than
$2,145,000 to be considered a flop. So now we know that no more than $2,145,000 of the lifetime
gross can have inflation applied from 1942.

I will state that again. Only $2,145,000 (or 2.086% of the Lifetime Domestic Gross)
can have inflation applied from 1942.

4. Though we still don't know what Bambi made in 1957, 1966 or 1975, what we DO know is that
all but $2,145,000 or less of the lifetime gross needs to be applied to 1957 or later.

In other words, nearly 98% of the inflation applied to the Lifetime Gross of Bambi needs to
be applied to 1957 and later. Not 1942.

Now.... Let's work backward.

1988 Release: $24,960,324 (24.28% of the Lifetime Gross)

1988 Release Adjusted for Inflation: $67,323,669.51

MEANING: 24.28% of the Lifetime Gross of Bambi only amounts to $67,323,669.51 in 2025 dollars.

$43 Million studio projection for opening weekend.

Blacktain Anti-America made double that at $88,842,603.

Blacktain just now finally reached $400 Million after Weekend 6, and hasn't even seen $200 Million in the US yet.

Blacktain is still $49 Million short of breaking even and it needs $450 Million to do that.

Snow White needs $673.5 Million to break even.

Good luck. You'll need it.

6ix, theater ticket sales are dropping in America because the same movie can be watched for free on TV or watched after paying for a high-priced theater ticket. 6ix, despite your insistence that it is politics killing ticket sales, you don't know a damn thing about why movies fail at the box office.

‘Snow White’: How Controversial Disney Princess Fared In Blue & Red County Cinemas – Box Office

By Anthony D'Alessandro | March 23, 2025 11:42am

“There was no red theater blockade due to any perceived controversies with Snow White,” said EntTelligence Chief Strategy Officer Steve Buck, “In fact the opposite, theaters in Red counties performed better than they would normally for a family/animated film of this size and scope.”

It stands to reason that Snow White’s business would be driven in Blue counties simply because the majority of theaters in the U.S. reside in such zones at 53% (as determined by the 2024 Presidential election results) and generate 66.78% of overall movie ticket sales and 63.58% of cinema attendance. Consider that liberal leaning areas like LA, NYC, and Chicago are top grossing B.O. markets.

At the same time, per EntTelligence, family and animated movies’ tickets sales come from 63% Blue counties/37% Red counties while their attendance stems from 60% Blue counties/40% Red counties.

That means that Snow White with 40% ticket sales and 43.5% admissions from Red county-based cinemas overindexed in such locations. Further supporting this: Snow White overperformed in Latino and Hispanic markets like Dallas, San Antonio and Phoenix. The Marc Webb directed, Marc Platt produced feature musical pulled in an overall hefty 30% Latino/Hispanic crowd behind 43% Caucasian.
