No doubt there are also some older similar threads too, but the one above is probably the best place at the moment for anyone wanting to discuss fave episodes.

My favorite is Ariel. I think that episode was a turning point for Jayne. Did I mention I was a Bunkmate??

Every single episode has something outstanding about it. There isn't a duff one in the bunch. If I had to pick the one I enjoyed watching the most, it would have to be Our Mrs Reynolds.
Some of the highlights: Mal and Jayne as husband and wife, Books' special hell, Mals reaction as Jayne tries to trade Vera for Saffron. The 'I knew you let her kiss you' bit at the end.
It also showed Mals chivalrous side. I think he would have avoided going to the special hell. Right up to the last second before the drug hit, he was trying to avoid taking advantage of Saffron. Gotta love a man with that much will-power.
It was just a great mix of action and humour.

That would have to be Ariel. My friend/co-worker and myself were working 3rd shift at the time, and we both missed the episode earlier that night. I brought in my taped copy, and the handy dandy training room complete with tv, and vcr was calling our names. On our lunch hour we watched it, and had a quick discussion on how television is actually better than going to see a decent movie, when done as well as Ariel. We also speculated on how the season was going to end, this being before we knew of cancellation. Damn, I want a season 2.

We all do, and, odd as this seems, it might happen. To my knowledge an immediate crossover from cancelled series to film is unprecedented, but it happened. If that can happen the reverse, immediate crossover from the film to a series, is not nearly as impossible/improbable as we thought.

They are all very good episodes. Although Bushwacked really could have used a more intelligent ending. I think my favorite episode is Safe, almost exclusively because of the ending.
In the beginning of the episode Simon makes an ass of himself in front of Kaylee with his pompous whining about how much he doesn’t like where he is. Yet at the end he appears to have a revolution after his “Why’d you come back” talk with the Captain, that despite how much he doesn’t like the life he is forced to lead, Serenity may be more of a family then his own. Simon’s presence on the crew is enough to make Mal return for him, when his own father wouldn’t do the same. That more then blood is what defines family. Then they all gather around the table and ate dinner. Yeah, some will say that I’m an easy mark, but I really like that episode.

Well, there's the question that you asked, and the one that I think you might be intending to ask... The one that gets my vote for "best episode" is _Out of Gas_. "Favorite" is a little trickier, but I think I just might have to say _Jaynestown_.
