Looks like China made the 2024 Top 10 by only $4.5 Million.
Had Venom been able to hold out for just another Fiver, China would have been completely boxed out of the Top 10 last year.

That's a cool story.
But it begs the question, if nobody in America knows who he is, why waste the special effects budget turning him into a monkey on screen when he could just play his performing monkey self and just as many people in America would recognize him either way?
My curiosity is piqued on this one. Is it just a stupid gimmick, or does little Robbie have something to say now that he's all grown up?
I'd love to ask Liam Gallagher if he's seen Monkey Williams yet.
I don't care what Liam says. Back For Good wasn't half bad.

The BIG question is what was Hollywood thinking when it placed Robbie in a Planet of the Apes movie? How will that be profitable? That makes as little sense as Bob Dylan, A Complete Unknown (2024), wearing a chimp costume, which would increase the cost to produce the movie and drive away serious fans.

First off, Oasis is NOT a Boy Band, and Liam Gallagher is going to break your face the next time he sees you for lumping him in with Robbie Williams (SPOILER ALERT: Liam Gallagher hates Robbie Williams), so please don't interview him after you posted this article.
Secondly, Oasis did quite well here in America for a good deal of time. There is nobody over 30 years old in America who doesn't know who Oasis is.
They had 3 Platinum Records in the US alone, so nobody knows what the fuck you're even talking about.

Thirdly, 90% of the UK boy bands referenced in this article were around at the same time that there was a huge glut of boy bands in the US. We already had Backstreet Boys and N'Sync, and then you could dig really deep and exhume 98 Degrees as well as LFO, as well as half a dozen or more others that nobody remembers. Hell... according to your logic, we also had Oasis as well since they were doing gangbusters in America right around that time.
We didn't need Westlife or Take That. We already had 98 Degrees and LFO that nobody was listening to, and they were really only around to fill dead-time in weekend concert events.
And that leads to the Last point, which is why One Direction did so well in America. We had been over that Boy Band & Britney Spears/Christina Agulera era for a decade, and there wasn't any US Boy Bands active in the market, so there was room for a UK Boy Band to break out. Their only competition at the time was Justin Bieber, and because there wasn't a glut they weren't even competition with each other. They were always playing gigs together. And come to think of it, there was probably still such a revulsion to the idea of a Boy Band when they made it big here that the only reason they achieved that success in America was because of Justin Bieber, and the fact that they were able to get in as Bieber's opening act when he went on tour.

Somebody, or even a group at Paramount, viewed Better Man and then recommended the company pay $25 million for the rights to distribute this movie in North America. That somebody, or group, should repay Paramount $25 million.

Better Man isn't the hit Paramount was hoping for - at least not in the US.
The film, a biopic of British popstar Robbie Williams in which he's played by a CGI monkey, staggered to a meagre $1.1 million in ticket sales from 1,291 locations. That's against a reported production budget of $110 million, on top of the $25 million it cost for Paramount to acquire it.

Maybe we ought to show that to the college "educated" Zoomer who wrote an article calling Oasis
a Boy Band and claiming they never broke out in the US.
I only knew that Liam hated Robbie because I remember the brothers being interviewed in one
of the "Lad Mags" maybe 15 or 20 years ago where he spent a whole paragraph taking the piss
out of Robbie and saying something like he's going to die being some fat, old, washed-up
cabaret singer with a residency in Vegas.
Maybe we should put that in the predictions thread?

It looks like somebody posted just a snippet from that article 13 years ago on their personal blog. That's definitely the article, but it doesn't have the part about Robbie Williams.
It's from FHM Magazine, in August of 2002. Liam was doing the Go Fuck Yourself thing 22 years ago before Elon Musk made it cool again.
I doubt I'm going to find that full article online short of buying the magazine off somebody on ebay now, since FHM shut down a long time ago. I did try to take a look at the site on the Wayback Machine, but even though it's there what they have preserved is useless.
Makes you wonder how much content had been created on the internet in the last 30 to 40 years that is lost and will never see the light of day again.
There's probably a repository of old magazine scans that people have worked on. I know I got my step-dad every issue of Woodworking Magazine after they moved and his complete set away with all the other stuff they weren't taking with them. Can't even remember where I got that now, but it wouldn't have had FHM or Maxim. It was a site geared toward manly survivalism type stuff.
