Donald Trump’s team has signed some key documents needed to begin the transition, but they’re still refusing to agree to everything.
Donald Trump is shirking decades-old norms intended to make the transfer of power smoother, according to The New York Times.
After weeks of delays, the president-elect’s team has finally signed a standard transition agreement with the White House to start briefing staff members. But they are still refusing to sign two other key documents. One is a Justice Department agreement to let the FBI perform security clearances for transition team members. This means that the Biden administration still isn’t able to share classified information with anyone from Trump’s transition team. The Trump team also won’t sign the General Services Administration agreement, which provides secure office space and government email accounts.
The Trump team has not commented on whether it does intend to sign the agreements sometime in the near future.

“Political polarization is harming our health in just about every way,” says Matthew Motta, a political scientist and health law scholar who studies anti-science attitudes at Boston University — and “pretty much all aspects of health have become politicized.” That leads elected officials and other authority figures to make bad health policy decisions and communicate with the public in ways that link health behavior with partisan ideology. A public that sees everything through a red-or-blue lens is more likely to distrust experts, dislike policies with clear health benefits, embrace policies with clear health risks, and make self-destructive choices.
These dynamics aren’t exclusive to a single party, says Jay Van Bavel, a psychologist at New York University who studies social identity and morality: Nobody is immune from the tricks polarization plays on the brain.
That makes this a particularly interesting time to be thinking about how polarization affects the decisions we make about our health. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) — one of the US’s most influential leadership roles in health — isn’t just an anti-vaccine advocate with a shaky grasp on science. He’s also a partisan shapeshifter: A scion of one of America’s most consequential Democratic dynasties, he ran for president as a Democrat, only to endorse Trump as the Republican candidate later in the campaign.

I once almost choked to death while eating food. I did my own research and discovered that I am not alone. Thousands of people choke every year while eating, and hundreds of those people die. That’s why I don't feed my kids. It’s dangerous. Now plenty of people will point out that food supposedly "prevents starvation," and that might be true, but it’s not fair to completely ignore all the dangers food poses, like choking, allergies, gingivitis, and garlic breath. I'm just saying, do your own research and decide what you think is best for your kids. If you choose to give your kids potentially deadly food, that’s your problem, but as a parent, I don't think the government has any right to tell me that I need to feed my kids.

2024 was the first year in recorded history when incumbents have lost vote share in every single developed democracy that held a contest, with Vice President Kamala Harris actually performing better than all but one of her developed-world peers. Since 2020, incumbent parties in Western democracies have lost 40 out of 54 elections — meaning the odds of an incumbent defeat in the past few years have been just shy of 80 percent. Dominant incumbent parties have suffered election setbacks or even outright defeats in places as diverse as South Africa, India, and Japan. Even some of the exceptions to the “incumbents lose” rule of late bolster the point, as they tend to have some kind of anti-system credential (see the Morena party in Mexico, for example).

I could see where you get confused on this issue. You were so greedy for those vaccines and you took as many as they would allow. If nobody cut you off, you'd have dosed yourself multiple times everyday.

Anybody else starting to get the feeling that Trump has done more Presidential tasks in the last 24 days than Joe Biden* and his entire administration did in nearly 4 years?
This ain't over. This was no fluke. Not by a long shot. You can feel it in the air right now. A major cultural shift just happened.
I've been talking about the pendulum finally swinging back for right around the last two years in here, mostly related to pop culture stuff in the cinema forum, but in here occasionally as well.
Yanno.... The fact that in the summer of 2021 no matter what station you were listening to you couldn't escape People of the Pride at least once every hour and every DJ talking about pride events in downtown Chicago every commercial break. And every commercial break had an ad paid for by Pfizer for booster shots. Every Triple A video game that came out had gay pride shit anywhere they could stuff it, and people who made mods that allowed you to remove it if you didn't want to see it were banned permanently off the platform.
But by the summer of 2023 nobody was screaming "PEOPLE OF THE PRIDE" in your ears and it died down to whispers. And then, in 2024 it's as if it never existed at all. If it weren't for whatever the hell that Olympic opening ceremony drag show was, and the entire world outright rejecting it, we wouldn't have heard a single fuckin' peep out of them this year.
While Trump is busy draining the swamp and flushing the NeoCons and the Pelosi family down the toilet with the rest of the turds, I think the Lesbians and the Gays and those that swing both ways have some turd flushing of their own to do too.
LGB, it's time to set yourselves free. Get rid of all of those mentally deranged letters and numbers and punctuation marks they keep adding to the end of it and tell the world enough is enough.
You fought a long, hard battle and you won.

The Parallels Between Trump's Republican Party and China's Cultural Revolution

In 1966, Chinese leader Mao Zedong engineered a decisive return to power after seven years of quiet retreat following the first period of his near-absolute rule, which ended with one of the worst famines in history.
First, Mao incited a kind of culture war: He manipulated what had begun as an obscure debate about a theater play into a vehicle to attack bourgeois influences in the Chinese Communist Party and the officials that he believed were plotting his demise. Mao’s next move involved inciting university students in the capital of Beijing to attack the country’s establishment and nomenklatura as traitors and counterrevolutionaries.
Mao’s imprimatur was enough to unleash a frenzy. From those first protests, a slogan was born that eerily captured the spirit of much of China’s next decade, known as the Cultural Revolution. “Bombard the headquarters,” the saying went, and following that watchword, China spiraled into deep chaos as rampaging young people set about attacking figures of authority and institutions of government, leading to the deaths of around 1 million people.
As a reporter in China in the early 2000s, I interviewed Nie Yuanzi, the former university administrator whose radical wall poster is often credited for setting off the movement. At 84 years old, Nie was full of regret. “I didn’t know we were heading toward disaster,” she told me. “Once I understood, I stopped following them. I opposed them.”
Mao himself showed no such remorse. As he watched the turmoil, the aging leader is said to have exulted, “Everything under heaven is in utter chaos; the situation is excellent.”
The Cultural Revolution aimed to restore Mao’s once-domineering sway over China. The movement’s first principle was destruction of the institutions that had governed China since its revolution culminated in 1949, meaning the senior bureaucracy and even the upper ranks of the Communist Party that Mao himself had founded. Revolutionaries reviled learning and respect for tradition. They targeted people with managerial competence and ravaged educational systems, and for years, the universities were all but closed.
Radical upheaval was not the only tool for change. Another principle of the age was absolute loyalty to Mao. Those who survived these years in the high echelons of power did so through endless fawning. To question Mao’s wisdom was a shortcut to career termination, banishment, or death, as in the case of China’s president, Liu Shaoqi, who was purged and died in detention in 1969.
In the weeks since Donald Trump’s reelection as U.S. president, my thoughts have repeatedly turned back to that time, which is remembered in China as an era of such thorough disaster that public discussion of it remains tightly censored.
What follows is not a prediction that the United States is about to experience destruction and violence sanctioned from above on the scale that turned China upside down from 1966 to 1976. I hope I am correct in believing that the United States’ pluralism and its older and deeper democratic institutions will be resilient enough to forestall such a fate. But I am not entirely confident. Even at this early moment in the transitional period after the Nov. 5 election, the parallels are too many to ignore.
Take the matter of complete loyalty to the agenda of a party leader. Troy Nehls, a sycophantic Republican congressman from Texas, recently said of the president-elect: “He’s got a mission statement, and his goals and objectives, we need to embrace it. All of it. Every single word. If Donald Trump says jump 3 feet high and scratch your head, we all jump 3 feet high and scratch our heads.”
If Nehls’s language is extreme, the sentiment behind it is not. Many Republicans have vowed nearly unquestioned support for Trump’s policies and decisions. Many invok
