Trump will be fine.
He will also be your next President.
Anyhow, I thought of a comparable storyline to Romulus.
The Thing (1982)
Although I recall that film as excellent (and therefore superior to Romulus), the thematic elements felt quite similar - setting, isolation, revelations, urgency/excitement, etc. The graphic imagery of the villain in Romulus seems to suffer in comparison tho - technically fine, but maybe just too precise. The lighting for Romulus is darker - they don't have snow. But I think Romulus better than Leviathon. IIRC, Leviathon also had the evil corporate aspect involved.
SPOILER ALERT!
The 3rd post after this post, from our Resident Illiterate, contains Spoilers.
The film draws out the story, and backstory, in a patient and logical progression.
There is no need to bypass the story with illiterate blathering in this thread.

Not getting in the middle of that. I've had my disagreements with both of you over the years, but you've both grown on me. My name's Paul, and this is between ya'all.

Well now...
I think you might be selling it to me.
If The Thing (1982) isn't my favorite movie of all time, it ranks pretty damn high on the list.
I won't expect The Thing if I watch it, because that could only end up being a letdown to me if I did because I hold that movie in such high regard... but maybe I can get past the completely unnecessary horse cock face hugger scene they showed in the trailer and give it a watch.

Seen it, a good movie
its 'H R Giger' that's what I would compare it to
the main lead is a girl named 'Rain' she lives on a dark, miserbale, cold, smog, cloudy mega dark forever night planet
Who owns Aliens?
Fox got bought up by Marvel and then of course Disney purchased 'Marvel'...so now Fox want to show everyone they still have property for what? More Aliens Video Games...a Tv show? More movies?
Scifi has been around on tv a while 'Flash Gordon' campy?
Dark Star 1974 is a fun movie, after that Carpenter went cult hits while Dan O'Bannon moved into the nmainstream with star Wars and Aliens and Total Recall
Aliens came with pure horror
and many years ago Fox wanted to say they had more than 'Star Wars', Fox an old studio had Cleopatra, Charlie Chan, Dr. Dolittle, The Omen...but scifi was getting big
a 1977 American epic space opera by George Lucas was a huge hit for them, scifi was 'hot'...so way back in 1977 along came the horror Alien script for Fox a 1979 science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott, written by Dan O'Bannon unlike anything seen before and a lot of inspiration taken from H R Giger a Swiss artist, weird animals, steel and organic machine, evil looks with odd shapes, sexual poses, mechanical beast machinery, predator and prey best known for his airbrushed images that blended human physiques with machines, an art style known as "biomechanical". H R Giger had a crazy depressive girlfriend 'Tobler' lived with Giger in squalor sometimes in condemned buildings, they wouldn't stay with him she was a swinger they eventually becoming romantically involved and suicides, killing herself, his work already somewhat dark got 'Ultra Dark' the Macabre grim or ghastly atmosphere" Ridley Scott compared him to Hieronymus Bosch and Francis Bacon.”
Here is a letter from James Cameron more or less admitting he had stolen his artistic work and apologizing to H. R. Giger for not involving him in 'Aliens'
http://www.hrgiger.com/james_cameron.htm
There are two other big works by Giger the PC video game 'Dark Seed' I never played but it looks like a weird Psychological Horror all these devilish machine babylon creature satanic occult symbols in a nightmare world. A writer has recently bought an old mansion with some portal to an Alien Hell, clues about the previous owner's death, which reveal the existence of a parallel universe called the Dark World ruled by sinister aliens called the Ancients.
Species is another of H R Giger's a 1995 Sci-Fi Horror film they get an Alien SETI message from space which contains a sample of alien DNA, they build an alien mixing it with a baby she matures fully with two things in mind: survival at any cost, and reproduction.
Alien-3 stolen art work? the Oscars or Academy Awards overlooked Giger's contribution to Alien3. However, Ridley Scott included Giger's name along with nominees Carlo Rambaldi and Richard Johnson. Fox, at the time Alien3 was released, pointed out that studios are precluded from submitting nominees in the effects category directly to the Academy. This upset Giger so much that at one point he sent Academy president Karl Malden a fax with this closing comment: "I am under the strong impression that my contribution to the visual effects of the nominated movie has been intentionally suppressed", signing the letter with a large black pentagram.
Giger however would comment that he thought the resulting film was "okay" and that the Alien was "better than in the second film."

1992 when video games had basic graphics and terrible sound
There are possible H R Giger influence on Dune's goth look, rumors of Jodorowsky’s Dune instead of Lynch 1984

Watch It maybe
I'd recommend
yes Ive seen it and its a good movie
maybe a high 7/10 there are two very good actors in the movie
Female lead is very strong.
2 Actors do very well, there is a Black British actor I had not seen in other movies, at first I didn't really like the character he plays a kind of broken retarded 'retired' robot and then an upgraded one. What I didn't go for at first maybe I was comparing already to other Aliens and the android Ian Holm, Michael Fassbender, Lance Henriksen who all did great jobs playing artificial people but the story grows into its own, but the Black British actor does great as it develops I don't know his name.
EDIT
David Jonsson...he's English theater
It also starts on a world on the ground rather than starting on a spaceship like typical Aliens movies, the actress Caylee ? Cailee Spaeny? she was in a neo-noir thriller recently which I have not watched, Priscilla a biographical drama based on the 1985 memoir Elvis and Me and she was recently in 'Civil War' where she plays a young photographer, there are moments in Aliens where she really nails it.
The lighting and set and sound for 'Romulus' is a visual tribute a sound or dialogue tribute to all other Aliens films. Maybe it goes too far and rather than being its own movie it starts doing too many nods and winks and tributes to the Alien fandom itself. I think it is far better than all the other Aliens, the Alien 3 prison colony and alien dog, Alien Resurrection by Joss which seemed a bit dumb, it is better than Prometheus, and much better than Alien Covenant.
'Alien Romulus' is not The Thing 1982 and the remake of 'The Thing' 1982 is not Aliens, The Thing has no robots it is originally based on Who Goes There / The Thing from Another World story. The Thing is more like a Doppelganger Invasion of the Body Snatchers film, the snowy isolation of Snowpiercer, Harbinger Down a silly monster movie or Fargo or the thing is like every other fun Carpenter movie with fun Kurt Russell one liners.
John Carpenter lived on the fringes of Hollyweird he at times feels like B-movie although his movies are great on 'Surviving' Hollywood, Ridley Scott and James Cameron became big shots who made it to 'big time' A + List.
If people don't remember the movies you watch....
...then I can see how you could make the mistake of think Aliens and 'The Thing' are same-ish when they are not. At no time did I ever feel the sense of human cold, long winters of British Columbia and Alaska made to look like the South Pole and at no time did I see human isolation as I seen in 'The Thing' and no time did I see an 80s Male Action star with funny one-liners. Alien Romulus has androids doing bad things like in other classic movies 'The Terminator' or Blade Runner, The Thing 1984 Carpenter has a different vibe and feel in his movies, they are fun even when they are horror. At no time watching Aliens films do I think 'fun' Carpenter uses good foreshadowing and for people alter he spoils the entire concept of “The Thing” within the first few minutes of his film but at the same time you are not sure 'Who' is the alien 'Thing' as its hidden by first person perspective. The link to other spaceships and robots of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation gives Aliens more of a Blade Runner Dystopia Grimdark feel, all though they are similar subject matter they are totally different films. The Thing however is set in the current on Planet Earth not in the scifi future, The Thing could feel more like 'They Live' it has no 'girl power' at the South Pole. 'Alien Romulus' begins in a dark space town in a mining community, 'The Thing' does not travel anywhere it is isolation of Antarctica. You could argue 'The Thing' has more of the imposter going on like in There Will Be Blood, Face/Off at no time do you feel the Alien in Alien Romulus has replaced one of the crew / cast. The Thing is more gro

It's made $226,815,007 worldwide so far, but slowing down pretty hard.
On an $80 Million budget it's already a success and made over $26 Million.
I think it would be a real shame if it grosses less than A Quiet Place: Day One, which pulled in over $261 Million.
It's only in its 2nd week and it's pulling in the weekly numbers that Day One pulled in during its 4th week. That's really a matter of timing though. Romulus came out with a loaded box office that Day One had the benefit of avoiding back when every blockbuster was failing.
