A worthy entry in the franchise. Not as good as Alien or Aliens, better than the AvP garbage.

Note: there is no CGI in this film. Instead, they brought back Ian Holm from the dead to play the same "character" again.

Want to hate on corporate greed? They serve you up plenty here. More than in Aliens.

This certainly fits in the horror genre, because most of the characters do really stupid things that will kill them.

It does include some cool twists, which I don't think I've seen before.

Cool. That's at least a better review than Nerdrotic gave it.

Not that I watched Nerdrotic's video. I don't really like that dude. But I heard today that he didn't care for the flick.

How does this rate next to Alien 3?

I didn't like A3 when I was a kid, but I've since watched it again after seeing AvP and I had a lot more appreciation for it than I did when I was 11 years old.

I think they are different genre of film, or at least emphasis.

A3 was more action than horror - following Aliens. Everybody knew the horror, not much surprise or shock, but action battle, cat and mouse, still on a spaceship.

Romulus is more horror than action - at least for the characters, who don't know what they came across. Characters do the same dumb things that slasher films are known for (except nobody has sex).

So, I say Romulus is a better horror entry than A3, but A3 is a better action entry than Romulus.

I saw the first 4 Alien in cinema. Have rewatched Aliens many times, and Alien a few. Trying to recall A3 well enough over that time span, I feel that they are about even - perhaps Romulus a tad better, for a few reasons I won't mention now.

BTW, I forgot to mention: I had wondered the genesis of the film being called Romulus.
One of the settings in the film is a ship or space station or lab, which is 2 identical halves which could each be independent. Remus and Romulus. None of that should be spoilery.

I guess I'd have to rewatch A3 again, since it's still been about 20 years since I've seen it. I don't remember it as a "movie that still takes place on a ship".

My memories of that movie is a bald Sigourney Weaver on a prison planet. I didn't remember it being much "action" like Aliens since they didn't have much in the way of weapons like the marines in Aliens did. I remember the reason I didn't like it when I first saw it was because after everything they went through in Aliens they just unceremoniously killed off Newt and Hicks off screen before the movie started and now we're supposed to care about all these new prisoner characters we've never seen before.

I didn't hate the 4th one that much either, come to think of it. CGI aliens in parts of that movie were crap, but it was alright.

Excluding the AVP garbage, I haven't seen any of the Aliens movies after those first 4 movies. I think it's really the Predator stuff that I hate after the 2nd Predator movie. Prey was a step up from the rest of them, but Predator movies are just pretty bad in general after Predator II.

Re: live Ripley vs synthetic Ripley, alien sucked out the vacuum hole, wasn't prison planet with Douriff holding alien in a cell - or trying to, etc.

Going on 8 years sober and nearly 3 presidents since my last drink, and even longer since my last smoke.

I probably shaved 25 points off my IQ over as many years and I'm still the smartest person in the room.

The nerds on YOUTUBE either love it or hate it, there doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

Is that a fact?

I've kind of tuned most of it out recently.

I think the Nerds won. I think we won.

I've started to watch some things again after years of going without most TV and movies and with rare exception it's all been pretty damn good. Granted, I'm a lot more picky than most on what I choose to watch.

I wonder what the guys who've built careers complaining about things are going to do when there's not much to complain about anymore. I think some of them were smart and started diversifying several years back, but they're not going to have the built-in audience they did 5 years ago for much longer if things keep on this positive trajectory.

I think some of them are going to invent problems, just like people on the Left have done when they won the various culture wars they were fighting.

I haven't watched much Critical Drinker after he shit on the Roadhouse remake like he did. I'm not saying that it was a great movie. I'm not saying that it was a movie I asked for. But it was not a bad movie and it certainly was not woke. There either was a better movie for him to critique at that time, or if there wasn't maybe he should have taken a week off or made a video outside of his wheelhouse to try to expand the brand. He's made a lot of great content for many years, but when he lowers himself to calling something woke that wasn't woke he's not only devaluing his brand, but he's also trivializing all of the previous content he created when it was necessary.

That's why I'm interested in seeing that JSF seems to think that Romulus isn't a bad movie. I never cared much for Nerdrotic, and it doesn't surprise me that he didn't like it. I'm really curious to see what somebody like Dave Cullen thought about it.
