She can play, sort of....but the Fat-Is-Beautiful thing has to be one of the more stupid moments of the modern 4th wave feminism movement.
If you start with a mistake one flawed technique, it can take years to fix these bad habits.

There is no doubt she can sing notes. Can truly 'Lizzo' play...I would say 'maybe' her blow technique at time looks good and posture kind of looks good and she has a good musical memory for some of the notes, but if she were to work on her health and practice more, keep working then she would play much better. Lead artists have had an ego for centuries...for a while they were simply performers, they might have been in the lead part of a marching band as an army went to war or they played for a King and if the King didn't like it then maybe their head got chopped off. Now days ordinary musicians are elevated to levels, they become worshiped on tv and media, they are often shameless people, it is all manufactured or pushed and promoted by some record company 4 record companies own all the music and above them some big investment group from the Queen of England's trust investment or Saudis, you have Sony, Vivendi, EMi, NBC Universal...they eventually buy up all the indie companies, or above them along come Goldman Sachs of the EU or Blackrock or Vanguard. Not all is artificial, yet it is almost completely fake ...but ...even in pop some have humility 'Peter Gabriel' for example is a name that could play, he was not the best, Not one of the greatest of all time but he took the music serious enough not to make a clown show of it and he worked hard on his technique and sound, Peter Gabriel from Genesis can play.
Peter Gabriel really did some wacked out crazy psy progressive stuff but- he sounded even in some of his more trippy numbers he sounded far better than Lizzo.
I know her from I guess media online outrage, she started play the instruments of all famous historical people, they give her some special flute from hundreds of years ago, a story came out from Mainstream media that she's the best, that said Yes – they claim she's a 'flute expert' like a concert player or trained flautist....when you've been around people who play wind instruments you sort of get to know quick who can play and who can not...now admittedly I only listened to a few seconds of her playing but I guess it was enough but not as bad as say Madonna bringing a guitar on the stage for the first time. Well I learned something new today. I didn't even know she played anything. I didn't even know what you meant by she could "play" decent until further down in your post where you first mention the flute thing.
I just assumed she was another rap artist or something.
I remember where I first heard of her now. She was in an episode of one of the Star Wars TV shows on Disney+ in an episode with Jack Black, who is just as out of place in that universe as she was. Maybe it was The Mandelorian?
Playing instruments isn't a dead art or anything. It just doesn't ever achieve "pop" status anymore and doesn't rake in the big bucks. It's the same reason that most black kids play basketball all the time with dreams of being an NBA player one day and they're not all out on the track training to be Olympic sprinters. Though only a few would ever make it in either one, there's a whole lot of money if you make it in the NBA and a long life of sacrifice ahead of you for very little monetary payout if you become an Olympian. Especially if you don't end up being a gold medal winning Olympian after all those years of training.
You almost need to have a gimmick with instruments if you want to become a known entity too. And being good looking is a requirement as well.
I don't think she ever got rich, but Lindsey Stirling was pretty well known online for a while around 10 years ago. Not only did she learn to play the violin, but she learned to dance around like a pixie while she was doing it.
I don't think anybody except for rich people who went to see philharmonic orchestras on the regular would have ever known her name if it weren't for the dancing while playing gimmick.

Well, this thread has gone way off-track, but while I don't believe in "shaming" people for being morbidly obese (IT DOESN'T WORK TO MAKE THEM LOSE WEIGHT) I don't see the sense in "celebrating" it either: It's not good for the perosn and not good for society to promote that behavior either.
Speaking of fat musicians - my favorite is "Izzy" aka Israel Ka?ano?i Kamakawiwo?ole.
It's far too easy to get fat in the USA, and (aside from some Polynesian Islands, where people seem to have some sort of 'fat gene') the USA is the fattest nation in the world. I chalk it up to high stress, isolation or even outright dangerous neighborhoods, a culture the promotes inactivity, and CHEAP JUNK FOOD. But it can be managed the way eating disorders are managed: not by 'celebrating' it but pesistent nudges from family and friends to make better choices.
