Top Gun remake, new Avatar and Spider-Man No Way Home made money so its not post-Covid people have returned to Cinema, also some of these films were dividing because of politics, some had to much of 'The Message' some have viewer fatigue on style and genre and the Superhero thing seems over done anyways.
Strange enough you do find hits pop up, the vidoe game product 'The Super Mario Bros' made into a movie

Firefly was the greatest TV show back 22 years ago. What it needs is a sequel! We will call it Serenity.

An extremely weird reply, but I can't say I disagree with the overall idea of it.
The answer is, of course, money. No matter how bad they were up until 2023, almost every live-action remake of Disney classics brought in tons of money. Until 2023, these were always a safe bet, and nobody even had to put any thought or real work into them. Nobody had to take a chance on a new idea. It was like a money printing press.
People are tired of Disney. They are tired of being preached to in their entertainment. They are tired of the race and gender swaps. And they're really tired of paying $100+ for family movie night at the theaters for any or all of the above.
Disney fucked up here. If they put a white girl in the leading role like they should have, and they didn't put all the woke man-hating nonsense along with Akwifna doing the dumbest Disney song ever made, it would have made over a billion. Easily.
But what they got instead was a very meager payout, hardly worth anybody's time who was involved in the production. It was the 2nd highest production budget of any live-action Disney movie made, and it's very low on the list of worldwide gross for live-action Disney remakes.
Add to that, they knew that Peter Pan and Wendy was so terrible that they didn't even bother putting it in the theaters and it's been a very expensive wakeup call for Disney. And not something they wanted to see with other massive failures like Elemental and Indy 5, on top of a pathetic earning on Antman. The only real win they'll likely get this year is the money from Guardians 3, but even that fell short of the Billion it probably should have made.
I don't know what the hell Disney is going to do in 2024 to start turning this around. I don't know if Disney knows what the hell it's going to do to turn it around either.
They'd better figure it out though. They can't afford two years in a row like this.
Especially not when Universal is embarrassing them at every turn while also figuring out how to finally make video game movies that people will pay to see. Nintendo is a very powerful ally.

True to my word, I will put it in the "winners" category based off the twice the production budget rule of thumb, but the investors at Disney know the true numbers that were behind this and I suspect that we're going to see a huge ramp-down of live-action Disney remakes after this one failed to get even close to $1 Billion like its predecessors did while being the 2nd most expensive live-action remake in history for the company.

Especially given the rise in costs of EVERYTHING during the Biden* Administration, I'm not going to argue that this isn't true, but somebody needs to bring some real receipts to the table proving this when it's been generally accepted for years that a movie had to double its production budget to break even. As I stated several times in these failure threads, I will not move the goalposts on this just to make the numbers look more in line than what I want to see, and I feel that this is happening more and more often as the year drags on with zero concrete evidence available to back up those claims.

I still need more evidence, but if Variety is willing to actually admit the following line in an article about Disney's problems this year, there may be some merit to the idea that the rule of thumb has changed:

The lesson for Disney, besides firing all the woke staff, is to learn that its GUARANTEED BILLION DOLLAR MOVIE days are over. M3GAN only had a $12 Million budget and will likely end up being the 2nd most profitable movie of 2023 for its investors when Super Mario's theater run is over.
They've got to stop spending over $200 Million on every movie they make unless they want to start making things that people want to see again.
It's one thing to look at The Little Mermaid as a huge win by saying it's 8th place Domestic and 13th place Worldwide for 2023 after its first weekend (now 4th place and 8th place, respectively), but when a movie only makes 65% of its production budget worldwide on its first weekend its doomed to lose money in the end after real world accounting is factored in. If the movie had cost $100 Million to make, it would have already been a winner.
